Your article on conference realignment on Sunday did not address the elephant in the room, what really brought this discussion to a head, and what is really being talked about in Columbia: the fact that the Big 12 is the only major conference in the country that does not share television revenues on an equal basis. The vast majority of that revenue goes to Texas, OU, and Nebraska.

Missouri stands to increase their income by a huge amount if they join the Big 10, totally understandable. I am surprised they don't jump at the opportunity. Actually I believe they should. What I would rather see is the Big 12 switch to an equal dispersion of television revenues, but if that were brought up, OU an TX claim they would bolt to another conference.

This is blackmail and completely wrong, but OU and Texas have the rest of the conference over a barrel, which in the end will be the cause of the demise of the Big 12.

"Here’s a bit of trivia that will surprise a lot of people. The Southwest Conference played longer without Texas Tech than it did with Texas Tech: 41 years without Tech, which was in the Border Conference, 40 years with Tech. So let’s not get all misty-eyed over UT-A&M-Tech allegiance."

This is a rather arbitrary point of view. It wouldn't be difficult to apply this same reasoning to many other situations... 'Between arbitrary time frame A, conference B played more without School C than it did with School C, so let's not get all misty-eyed over the relationship among Schools C, D and E.' It makes no sense.

Furthermore, do you have any reason to think that Baylor would get more support from the Texas Legislature than Texas Tech? Do you realize that Baylor is a private univeristy? Do you really think the state legislature is going to favor a private school over a public school? That is nonsense.

Otherwise, I agree with you, The University of Texas will do what is best for itself. It's pretty goofy to go around pretending like Texas and Texas Tech are joined at the hip. Frankly, a lot of Tech fans talk about Texas refusing to go to the PAC 10 without Tech, and I'm not convinced that's true. I haven't been able to find proof of that anywhere. As far as I'm concerned, it's just hearsay.

I love the idea of merging the Big 12 with the Pac Ten to get the Pac 16. You have the existing 8 coastal school and can add a southwest division of Arizona,
Arizona State, Colorado, Utah, Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma and of course
Oklahoma State. We'd probably play all the seven teams in our division and maybe add two coastal games per season. Meaning Oklahoma would end up playing the eight coastal teams every four years. The trip packages would be fantastic. Along with us probably playing in the national championship game
most likely three times a decade. Seems like a winner to me. And with all the added viewership the payouts to the 16 teams would just skyrocket. Probably
come close to matching the Big16 and the SEC.
