On the Basketball Violations: There's an old saying which seems appropriate here: You can delegate authority, but you cannot delegate responsibility.
With regards to OU/Texas and possible realignment: OU can and will stand on it's own when it comes to any breakup of the Big 12 and movement to other leagues. Yes, Trammel is correct when he says the last thing OU wants is to be separated from Texas, but if push comes to shove, the Sooners are too attractive an entity not to have their choice of which conference to join. Texas has more money, but in terms of national appeal, tradition and level of success, Oklahoma Football is every bit the equal of Texas, and truth be told, probable the more attractive of the two. Other than in the fantasy world that exists in the minds of Longhorn fans, UT is not, nor will it ever be a Notre Dame. The two situations are totally different. Texas' money and level of financial support is good for Texas, but adds nothing to their value to another conference. In that regard, the Longhorn's only real appeal lies in the Television markets of Dallas, San Antonio, Austin and Houston, And, while that is a significant factor, Oklahoma also has a strong appeal in those markets, as does A&M. Texas (the State) is huge with a large population, but you must remember, not everyone in Texas is a Longhorn fan.
Finally, OU is not, in my opinion, tied to OSU. While there would be political pressure to ensure the two remain in the same league, in the end, OU will do what's best for OU regardless of OSU's prospects.
