...and honestly, you want to know why OSU isn't filling the seats like before? Two words! Eddie Sutton! The man exuded class! He wasn't just a universities hero, he was a states hero, a nations hero. Everything that came from the man's mouth was as witty and sincere as some of Oklahoma's greatest heroes. Will Rogers comes to mind. It's no wonder that some might have expected Eddie to ensue not just a place in politics, but to become our nations supreme commander. Yes, Eddie made a terrible mistake, as did President Bill Clinton. But I bet today anyone of us would love to have either of these men leading our nation. They may not be perfect, but their effort was flawless!

Here it goes!I am a OU fan. Now, OSU fans stay with me here! Our company had a quest speaker by the name of Switzer
on our business session. Needless to say his language was very offending. Our business partners probably will never ask him again to be a speaker. However, we also had Eddie
Sutton speak to us one time in a business session. His
language and speech was inspiring and sincere. I am reminded that coaches are also role models.
I remember my son-in-law comments of his high school football awards banquet his senior year. The quest speaker
was a local well known TV Sports announcer. His choice of
language and vocabulary was plain awful. Following his speech the high school coach got up to give a personal
gift to each of his seniors for their season effort. He was kind of in shock as he gave each senior a copy of the bible!
Mr. Ford should be given a second chance. If you want
to do something for Mr. Ford, then send him a copy of the book Wooden, a lifetime of obervations and reflections on and off the court. Have him especially read Part III.

Here's another perspective. Sean Sutton is a coach who did things "the right way"! But Sean isn't coaching today! In college sports, it's never been about "judge me by my methods", it's always been "judge me by my results"! It's the nature of the beast. I mean when the market was flying high and people were getting returns on their investments no one questioned whether or not Madoff was involved in a pyramid scheme, but once the party was over investors found themselves holding worthless paper. I mean today we have Drs. and nurses defrauding the Medicare System, we have politicians on the take, we have bankers and other business professionals using taxpayer money for boondoggles in Las Vegas and other resort destinations. I mean let's liken a college coaches job to a Capitalist. Sure they get paid a lot of money with incentives and bonuses. The end result being "perform or else"! No ifs, ands or buts! Maybe what's wrong with our college athletics is just a reflection of what's wrong with our society.

Well you have to understand why it might seem as though the DOK is attempting to keep OSU athletics in disarray with it's constant badgering of it's athletic programs. It's been a constant throughout the years but moreso since T. Boone's generous gift. Personally, I wish Eddie Sutton could be forgiven and come back as head coach at OSU. That's just not going to happen. It would be great to see Eddie lead the Thunder next year, but looks like Scott has done a well enough job to keep it in the near future. Bobby Knight was always cut a lot of slack because he was Bobby Knight. Travis won't have the luxury of acting like Bobby Knight. What Travis did pales in comparison to some of the things Bobby Knight did. But Bobby is still respected today in spite of his methods. He's still a great humanitarian. Bottom line, it's the really little people who go after the big people. As for professors using profanity, I attended OSU in the 70's and I witnessed a Business Law Professor call a student outside the classroom and admonish a student with profanity laced obsenities, so no, don't say it doesn't happen because it does! If it's truly an issue it needs to be presented to the NCAA and they need to deal with it. Maybe what's needed is a players union to address such issues with the NCAA. But no, calling a player a f***ing idiot is not worse than a physical assault on a player like Bobby Knight once did. It might be inappropriate and it might need to be corrected but it should end where it began and players and coaches should move forward from here. My guess is that this type of behavior won't be a problem for Travis in the future. Let it go! It's not three weeks worth of newsworthy!

Berry: I agree with your comments over the past week or so regarding Travis Ford. The only sticky point is that OSU knew who and what it was getting, and now they want him to change who and what he is. Sort of like a woman marrying a notoriously lazy bum, then expecting him to get off his duff, get to work, and become the next Aubrey McClendon.
