Texas squeaker means what for OU?
Texas beat Ohio State 24-21 Monday night in a Fiesta Bowl thriller, and Mack Brown says he’s going to vote Texas No. 1 in the coaches poll Friday morning. Isn’t that special. Thursday night, the Waterford crystal trophy will already be in the hands of Sooners or Gators.
AP voters, of course, are not bound by the BCS national championship game, and they can do whatever they want in poll voting, and FOX broadcasters kept asking if the Longhorns could jump to No. 1 in AP.
Let me get this straight. The No. 3-ranked team is supposed to ride a narrow victory, achieved in the final seconds, over the No. 10 team, and leapfrog whoever wins the No. 1 vs. No. 2 shootout of Oklahoma-Florida?
This is not a discussion for people dealing in reality. There is not, and there was not, a scenario by which the Longhorns could jump to the top.
The voters spoke last time. If the voters were going to reward Texas for beating OU, they would have done it after the Sooners beat Missouri, not after the Sooners beat Florida in Miami.
Much more relevant is what Texas’ performance means. And the truth is, the Fiesta gives a little credence to Big 12 bashers. Not a lot, but a little.
Trailing 6-3 at halftime, Texas’ offense seemed quite mediocre, making you think that maybe Big 12 defenses are shoddy, as some claim. Of course, the 21-point second half was impressive. Quarterback Colt McCoy was fantastic; no one ever has said Ohio State doesn’t play defense. The Buckeyes can’t pass to save their lives, but they can guard you.
So we really can’t take too much from the game as it pertains to the Oklahoma-Florida showdown. Anything still seems possible. Tight game. OU blowout, via its explosive offense. Florida blowout, via another Sooner bowl meltdown.
Texas’ hurryup offense bothered Ohio State in the second half. That has to concern Florida, which already has admitted the Sooners’ no-huddle offense has them a little worried. OU’s offense is even more uptempo than UT’s. I think you’ll see the Sooners go into high gear early against the Gators.
Texas’ victory means the Big Bowl will be for Big 12/SEC bragging rights. The Big 12 now is 4-2 in bowls; the SEC is 5-2. The OU-Florida winner will give its league the better record.

Unless one of these teams blows out the other I think USC has as good a claim on the national title as anyone. The Big-12 is weak. The SEC needs a convincing win to take the trophy.
Texas didn’t look that great at all in the first half. I hope OU doesn’t get nervous early on when we do most of our damage.
Too bad that Texas won with that mouth of Mack Brown. He still insits that Texas should be in the GAME. He also stated after this game that he was going to vote Texas number 1. He should have his voting rights taken away if he does. The coaches are required to vote the winner of the BCS Championship game number 1, which is either OU or Flordia. Mack needs to hang it up. He is getting too old to understand the system anymore. I at one time pulled for Texas when they were not playhing against OU, but never again. Mack has turned into what the Texas fans have been for a long time. LOSERS.
Wow, I don’t know if it’s just hatred of OU or our entire state? What’s up with the media hating on Oklahoma so much? Is it because we don’t cry like Baja Oklahoma does? Seriously, I don’t understand the hatred. If folks didn’t want us in the game, then why the f*** vote us into the game? I’ve never seen such hatred of a college team. After all, these young men are just playing a game and representing their school. I guess that’s the way people are these days. Hell, we’re talking about a football game with so much hatred for one team, how do they think they could ever come up with a solution for peace in the middle east? Remember when journalism was journalism?
National Champions, are you kidding me. That was a second tier Ohio State team. They went down to USC and looked like they didn’t belong on the same field. And they lost to a Penn team that showed how weak they really were in the Rose bowl. A national champion would have trounced them, embarassed them. But 3 points at halftime. A comeback win with 16 seconds left. Legends in their own minds. They belong on that second tier with Ohio State.
Wow so your saying that just because osu played the greatest game they have played in four years that texas should get screwed again. haha. And its all the controversy that keeps bcs exciting so there will never be a playoff.
everybody hates the big 12 the most because big 12 wins and they lose.. by the way texas is the winningest team in history.
If you call Texas a second tier team what does that say about Oklahoma? Remember 45-35? I am not an Texas fan or even a Big 12 fan.
A couple years ago, everybody talked about how f###ing great the Big 10 was, what with #1 Ohio State and #2 Michigan. And as soon as they had played each other, the broadcasters announced that we had clearly just witnessed the best two teams in the country! Well, we found out how that played out…turns out the Big 10 was a joke! Now this year, it’s the mighty Big 12. But think about this, if OK loses to Florida, the Big 12 will have a 4-3 bowl record, with 3 victories over the 1-6 pathetic Big 10…and the SEC will ONCE AGAIN have six bowl victories. It should prove interesting. At least we will know, once and for all, whether the mighty Big 12 is overrated or not.
Every year or a couple of years major conference’s have there ups and downs. No conference is so much more dominant than any other year in and year out.
The problem with the bowl games is that they are played so long after the regular season is over. Some teams are off alot longer than others. All teams should end there regular season at the same time and then play the bowl games right after on a neutral field. That time Ohio State played Florida, Ohio State was off 51 days!!! Thats a joke for any team. Thats more than a half season. Play the bowls right after the regular season ends. Florida or Oklahoma might come out hotter than fire or colder than ice because of the long layoff.
USC, Florida or Texas will be No. 1
Sooners simply is not in the same breath. Those teams win. Big Game Boob will be blown out in a couple days.
Well, cry baby Mack and his little longhorns made no case for #1 last night. They had to come from behind to a below
average team Ohio State to win. Good grief, Ohio State had no offense at all. But one thing you can be sure of, cry baby Mack and his band of loser Alums will be politicing on every channel that will give them air time. And ESPN will probably give him headline news. Someone needs to send Mac Brown to a doctor to treat those delutions he is having in his own mind!!! And all you doubters will have your foot in your mouth after Thursday night! BOOMER SOONER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All day yesterday, I listened to how Utah should be number one. All of this stuff is laughable. I watched the entire first half of the Fiesta Bowl and wondered “how did Texas even compete with OU.” No disrespect, but they don’t have many playmakers and OSU was just running it down their throat. This is silly. NCAA please do something about this soon. It’s as if College Football is run by Communist (now BCS has jumped into bed with ESPN). The people know it’s wrong, know it’s unfair but there is nothing we can do but complain year after year.
If the Big 12 is the Flag Football League, as Kevin Sherrington alleged in his column, then someone just stuffed the Texas flag down Ohio State’s throat, or some other enema-influenced orifice. Must have been the inside slant. Ironic that a Dallas product, a Texas BA holder and Houston journalist should punk Texas. Hope Mack doesn’t get his address.
Since Waterford is going out of business, Texas can have the trophy next year. It with probably be wood, plastic, and rubber.
Now let’s see, who was it that the Schmooner’s couldn’t beat? Oh yeah, that’s right, it was the allmighty Longhorns!
USC beat OSU by 32 and Penn State by 14.
Penn State beat OSU by 7, and UT beat OSU by 3.
If anyone has a claim to jump the line in front of Florida or OU it is USC. UT is at the same level as Penn State, a top ten finish for certain, but it is clearly not of the same caliber as the Men of Troy. Has Mack been smoking some of those funny looking weeds that grow along the fence row of Bevo’s pasture?
All you sooner fans should hope your coach would fight for his team like mac fights for his I would love to know how many of you are even old enough to reamber the Big Mac attack It is true the mediaa is pissed off about OU being in this game as they should be USC,BAMA,UTAH,TEXAS are all better teams
Great blog, Mr. Trammel! A voice of reason was needed and you hit the nail on the head. Good read first thing this morning!
Someone kindly remove Smack Clown’s face from the front, sport, and Sooner pages of our newspaper. UT did not play a good game and were very lucky to get by with a scrape win. McCoy was as inept as I have ever saw him. The best part of the game was the indication of how opposing teams have a very hard time against the no-huddle offense. OU does run it about twice as fast, pass accurately from it, and have a far better record with it. Boomer Sooner.
Mack Brown can’t, let me repeat, Mack Brown can’t vote Texas #1. He doesn’t have a choice. All number one votes go to the champion of the BCS title game. The coaches are aware of this when they agree to vote in the coaches poll. No matter what Mack Brown says he’ll do, he won’t be able to do it, plus he’ll lose his vote next year. The WINNER of the BCS Title game AUTOMATICALLY gets all the first place votes in the Coaches Poll.
I’ll be glad when the season is over so all the cry babies can dry it up for a while. Does anyone else realize that IF Ohio State didn’t miss a field goal and IF Ohio State got the 2 point conversion, Texas would have LOST?! No, it didn’t happen that way but they did not blow out last nights game and it took them forever to score at all. I usually pull for Big 12 teams in bowl games but I pulled for Ohio State throughout the whole game hoping that Texas would realize their reality check. They still don’t get it. Big deal, they won by a whopping 10 points on a “neutral” field “in Texas”. I guarantee if they were to play OU today, Texas would lose!
If Mack doesn’t like the rules then he doesn’t need to participate. Just like the Big XII tiebreaker. He agreed to it and signed off on it. You can’t just go changing the rules after the fact Mack. Quit your whining!!!
Remember, there is a team with no losses. But, they are considered in a weaker league. I remember when Oklahoma was talked about the same way in earlier years. The BCS is no more than a “Good Old Boys Club.”
So far from what I have seen, if there were a playoff system in place today, then USC would destroy everyone.
But then Stoops and Mack would both be crying that something wasn’t fair, blah blah blah…..
I cant wait to see the sooner masses hollering for Stoops to reaign after they lose another bowl. Just like they did to their beloved Switzer.
WAH WAH WAH! Get a life Mack! Texas won by 3 and USC whipped Ohio State. I don’t like USC or Texas but if you are gonna whine about no. 1 play better than that!
Texas needs to shut up already!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They are such poor sports, there have been years where OU deserved to be in the National Championship and didn’t whine about it like these girls in Texas. They aren’t going to be in the same statosphere once OU blows Florida out. They need to SHUT UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Come on man, fox didn’t show the Texas pom pom girls one time. They showed the band 50 times, mack brown 50 times, Colt’s parents 20 times, and bevo a few times. When I look at bevo I think rib-eyes, t-bones, etc etc. When I see the Texas pom pom girls I think breast, thighs, etc etc. Damn I’m hungry.
G. Perryman – If Utah wants to win a “Good Old Boys Club” trophy they should try playing the Good Old Boys in order to win it.
3 4th quarter comebacks plus one game ending tackle with one second remaining on the road equals the number one ranking.Mack is right.Texas is the best team in the country.
I was really disappointed in this game……boring until the last few minutes of the game. I guess that I was expecting much more from Texas considering all of the talk from their coach, team players and the media about how great of a team they are. I hope that OU will remember all of the stuff that they have had to endure this season and continue playing the way they do———-Tough. Go Sooners.
Is it any less plausible than having a team that did not win its conference championship play for the national championship? Think back, OU fans….
How many more times must I hear Mack Brown spouting off??!!! And give the Tebow, blah, blah, gators, blah, blah, blah thing a rest too!! The way the entire sports media talks is that OU doesnt stand a chance. Hope OU rolls into that game tomorrow nite and kicks Florida’s teeth down their throat in their own backyard
Ohio State will never win a BCS game until they figure out a way to get Terry Porter back as an official.
OU does the no huddle better than anybody, Fox missed at least 4 plays that Texas ran on my set. Hope they can keep up better in the National Championship game. Hope OU wins but win or lose I’d like to see all the plays..
I used to respect Mack Brown since he coached at OU, but now as more and more of the best players leave Texas because of their seemingly arrogant approach to recruiting I have little respect or sympathy for a man that bailed out on North Carolina, leaving the program in shambles for several years. Additionally his comments, “A Heisman-type come back” for Colt McCoy and voting Texas #1 are purely the result of a coach, who has an opportunity to get the best players in the country and be a preeminent program annually has just turned into a Whiner! Win all your games than complain!
Blessings.
There should be playoffs to determine who really deserves to play in the championship game. The only reason OU is playing Thursday against the Gators is because they won a coin toss and they beat a #20 team (Missouri) BIG DEAL!!!
Texas is better than OU and should be in the national championship game. OU’s defense is about to be exposed in a special way.
Tramel you’re an idiot! Texas beat OU in a dominating 4th quarter. Ohio State is ranked 10th in the country so the game should be competitive. Texas only loss was a last second pass in Lubbock. To say that they have no claim what so ever just show your ignorance of sports. Maybe you can write for the fashion page or something.
Oklahoma has the best quarterback (Heisman, 2009) and the top receivers of any college team. Even without our best RB and best lineman they will clobber Florida in exactly 3 days. Armchair quarterbacks in other states have probably never visited OU’s stadium and observed how efficient the football program in Norman, OK has become. (We’re atop the football polls every year) Are you critics jealous?
Mack’s comments last night after the game were offensive to the integrity of the game. The rules for determining who goes to the Big 12 Chamionship have been in place for several years. It is likely UT’s representative voted for those rules at a time when emotions and politicing did not rule the day. It so happened that the tie breaker rule did not favor UT this year. Under Mack’s rules, he now does not have to honor those rules. He even said we should have the SEC tie breaker rules because they are better. If rules are inequitable, they should be examined and potentially changed. Under Mack’s belief system, if he thinks they are unfair, he does not have to obey them. I think they call that relative morality. What a testimony of integrity to the young men he is leading!
Ruth-Would you care to expound on what coin toss it is that you are speaking of?
Tim -How do you figure that the #3 team beating the #10 team vaults into the #1 spot when either #2 will beat #1 or vice versa. That makes absolutely no sense, whatsoever.
Hey look O.U. is a great team. Better than most. But any team can lose. I think O.U. will win. Dont bash Texas. They beat you and you still think you won the game. You had 1 chance to prove you were better and you didnt. Feel lucky that O.U. lost sooner than Texas. That is the only main reason your their and not them. I hate Texas. I really do. I don’t even like the big twelve. You lost to Texas!! Maybee you would kill them the next time you played. Or maybe you would lose by 10 again.
To Greg, they can’t but on that same notion how did #3 beat #1 but still became #1 over the team they lst too.
Texas was crawling in their no-huddle. OU runs it better than anyone. This will be interesting. I’m geared up…nervous in fact.
The coaches agree to vote the winner of the BCS Title game as the national champion. If Mack goes against this he should have his voting privledges taken away and never be allowed to vote again.
Mack needs to change his title from Head Coach to Chief Marketing Officer – all he ever does is try to spin things (whether or not there’s any facts to support his pitch)!!
Texas beat Oklahoma. Florida lost at home. Of all the one loss teams Texas has the “best” loss. Texas does have claim to the National Championship. That being said I would vote for whoever wins the game between Oklahoma and Florida. If I were to vote for a team other than the winner Thursday night it would be Utah, the only undefeated team and a BCS bowl winner.
WE NEED A PLAYOFF! 8 or 4 teams….
This is a pretty plain spoken assesment of the situation. They beat a number 10 team, by only 3, in the final SECONDS. Mack must be drinking some special kool-aid or his own bathwater here. I appreciate being loyal to your team, but looking at the numbers, you just can’t vote the Horns number 1. Come on, get serious Mack.
Zach:
Texas has the best loss? You mean the loss to the team that got destroyed by Oklahoma, scraped by Baylor and got manhandled by Ole Miss? That loss?
I hate UT and I always will. BUT, Mack Brown has only done one thing to p_ss me off; the phone call during the OSU game. Otherwise he’s just done what coaches do… play the game and find a way to win.
He didn’t hire the banner dragging plane, he didn’t set up a website to “remind” voters of a past game. He genuinely loves his boys and will do what ever he can to help them succeed.
It really doesn’t matter to me what ranking he votes the longhorns at. Bob’s gonna have the crystal football anyway.
Questions:
1. Mack Brown said he was going to vote Texas No 1. Does he have a vote in the AP poll?
2. Where does the coaches poll figure in the National Championship or does it?
3. Can a coach vote his own team NO.1 in this last coaches poll?
It is my understanding a coach can’t vote his own team higher than NO 2 in this last poll. Is this correct or not?
If it weren’t for the terrible roughing the passer call, Texas wouldn’t have scored 7 of those second half points.
All other statistics being close to equal, tradition probably allows Oklahoma University to dominate these polls, year after year. From Wikopedia:
Record: Texas 810-316-34 (.713) Florida 618-368-40 (.622)
Oklahoma 791-296-53 (.728)
Conference Titles: UT 29, UF 8, OU 42
National Titles: UT 4, UF 2, OU 7
Heisman Winners: UT 2, UF 3, OU 5
All-Americans: UT 120, UF 135, OU 144
NFL Hall-Of-Famers: UT 3, UF 1, OU 3
All three of these teams are excellent, with long-standing tradition, but at some point in history will OU’s critics tip their hats to a fabulous football school that has done so well and comes from a little state with a population less than 1/10th the population of Texas or Florida?
Once again Brown has demonstrated a complete loss of reality and continues to bask in his own little fantasy world that beating the number 10 team qualifies as a National Championship showing. For most of the game, UT looked average at best. Brown is again representing UT in a very unprofessional juvenile way. He should think of retirement before he totally loses touch with reality. Go ahead and vote Texas number 1, Mack. Neurotics dream of castles in the sky. Psychotics, like Mack, live in those castles. And Texas pays the rent. There’s always next year. Wouldn’t be surprised if Mack and his psychotic cohorts fly a plane over the BCS title game proclaiming UT as the National Champions. Mack, you need to relocate to a Division II or possibly Division III school where you can lay claim to a real national championship. UTAH deserves a shot at number 1 more than the Longhorns. They are 12-0 and beat a team that was ranked 1 most of the season, and they beat them badly. The case for UT as National Champs is a moot point,
Zach, I agree with you…texas is the most whinningest team in football history! Standing up for one’s team is one thing; going about it in a beligerent manner is another. If you ever see Stoops complain about something, you can be guarunteed the only people that would dispute him would be fans or foes wearing horse blinders (very few). I’ve seen Bob stand up against the media many times, because of the nausea they cause. But even in the old Oregon game, where the on-side kick call was so botched by the refs, he danced around it with his comments in a professional manner (no whining). The ref making that call was reprimanded (something to the effect of never being able to gamble on college football again). And because of Bob’s professionalism, no fines were issued to him or the university. Next season’s OU/tu game will be hot. Too bad we have to play it on a neutral field in Texas. Maybe we could play it on a neutral field in Oklahoma. In Stillwater or Tulsa? Or maybe a neutral field called Arrowhead stadium? The tx whiners would say, “But that’s too far. It’s no fair. OU doesn’t have to travel so far. It would be too costly for the tx fans. Why don’t we just play in San Antoine?”
USC is the best team in the country and would destroy Florida, OU and Texas. If anyone should be voted champ or at least co-champ it should be the trojans.
As far as the Longhorns, Colt showed last night why he will be a top NFL quarterback. At least give the kid some credit and dont hold it against him that his coach is a moron.
How did Texas beat OU with the team they have in Austin this year? How did K-State and A&M beat UT in 2006 and 2007? How did OSU beat OU in 2001 and 2002? How did Stanford beat USC in 2007 and have a hard time with Stanford this year? Sometimes even a blind squirrel finds its nuts. OU’s loss to UT this year is because sometimes you lose to a K-State, OSU, Stanford, UT or the like. Sometimes the best team does not win, but generally a steer does not think it’s a bull, which is the way it is with the UT Steers, something’s just missing.
Action-quality of schedule and overall body of work. Texas is a great team that did not play all that well vs an average Ohio State team to end the season. To that end how did Florida with a loss at home to a 4 loss team finish over a team whose only loss was on the road to another top 10 team. That to me is a better question.
USC the best team in the country? Probably not or perhaps not? Let it play OU or UT in Kansas City in the nighttime in December. If it wins, then maybe it’s the best. Until then, have USC quit playing games in its backyard or other tropical ports.
UT should get off its presidential kneepads and recognize that it was not knocked out of the BCS title game by OU, it was Florida. In the BCS standings, OU is number one, UF number two. Gripe at the Gators, not the Sooners.
Edwin, I wish I could have come up with something as clever as your post. Now that’s just funny…I don’t care who you are.
This is really sad. If anyone wants to complain it should by UTAH. Other than that, no one has any legitimate complaints about who is the number one team in the country.
Dewayne, you’re right! Utah can play with any team in the country. Boise State proved what David can do to Goliath in 2006…what a great game though. If we had a playoff in place, Utah would be an underdog much like OU is being considered right now. BTW, I have no complaints as to who is number one. Everyone knows it’s OU…Boomer Sooner Baby!
Michigan, not Texas, is the winningest program in upper division football history. Texas did just pass Notre Dame for number two, however. UM is also the third highest scoring team in major college football history. Nebraska just passed UM for second this week. OU is the only team in college football history to score more than 30,000 points with 30,494 as of today. OU has played only 1,131 with 298 losses. UT has played 1,185 with 320 losses. UM has played 1,207 with 297 losses. Ties were not decided by overtime or tiebreakers until the 1990s. OU has won more games than any other team since World War II. Most teams, Texas included up until about 1970, would not allow African-Americans on its teams any earlier. from 1946-2008, OU has won 547 games (including 47 in a row), Penn State has won 514 and UT has won 512. Bama has won 511, Ohio State and Nebraska have each won 505 games. Nobody else has won more than 493. OU is the only team since World War II to win more than 75% of its games.
Wow Neil! You really think that is a fair assessment on the score? I look for a close game of who gets last bats and wants it more…something like 38-31. Hopefully OU.
PINK, 1) Not at all. 2) The winner of the NCG is suppose to be an automatic yes vote from all coaches. 3) According to the agreement, no coach can vote otherwise as to the agreement. The SOP for the last vote will probably be set to default…In other words, Mack can say one thing, but will be unabale to back it up.
Colt McCoy, Graham Harrell, Sam Bradford, Zac Robinson and Chase Daniel. Wow! If Zac did not sustain an injury in the Holiday Bowl the nation might know more about him today, too. Chase Daniel is from Texas so the four Big XII South QBs and a Texas high school star who headed north make up quite a 1-2-3-4-5 punch combination. We are blessed to have those five QBs from our region. I am amazed that Sam Bradford won the Southwest region in the Heisman polling. I would have thought that a Texas QB would have won the region. It means something that the folks who saw Sam and the others the most voted for him over Colt or Graham.
Utah was lucky to beat TCU in Utah. Too bad TCU did not hold on and make another team BCS eligible from our area.
I didn’t know that about those five all being from Texas. WOW! Bradford went to school in Oklahoma City at Putnam North high.
Zac is from Colorado. Sam from OKC. The other three top Big XII QBs are from Texas. All 5 are from the Big XII South region, Texas and Oklahoma by birth or school affiliation.
GEEZ, Tramel making excuses already, just in case. He says that if OU wins it will be because it has an explosive offense, because OU is a good team. Now for the ridiculous part…if Florida wins it won’t be because of anything Florida did, it won’t be because Florida is a good team themselves. No it will be because of something that OU did and that is have another meltdown. He says a Florida win will because OU will have beat themselves. Give me a physical break, Tramel. That reasoning is GARBAGE!!!
Unfortunate as it may seem, Utah’s recognition came only after stomping Bama. If we really had a playoff Utah would be in the running. Maybe as an underdog, but they would be a force to be reckoned with. All eyes would be watching the little dog. Did you know that if a Pit Bull had the mind of a Chihuahua, they would have to destroy the breed?
Cet:
Good points, the loss to Tech was much better at the time. You’re right – now it doesn’t look so great as Tech faded down the stretch. But that game was also played in Lubbock which is a key factor.
Florida is getting the biggest pass in my opinion, their loss to Ole Miss at home is maybe the worst loss. Thoughts?
it’s the bcs national championship game. that means these 2 teams are playing for the national championship. not texas, usc or utah. how hard is it ???????????
If UT doesnt have a case for number 1 what does that say about OU? UT beat them by 10 points for the love of Christ. Utah, USC & Texas have as good or better a claim to the NC as OU. I suspect OU will make it moot Thursday by losing. This article shouldnt be surprising thought. Trammel is the same OU homer who said Bob “run it up” Stoops took the high road to the BCS. Mind you this is the same program that is on probation RIHT NOW. Pooor pooor Okies, have to to hire a hack writer to sing Boomer Sooner to you on a daily basis. Classic.
The OU football program without Texans ….please see the Kansas Jay Hawks for the last 100 years. Priceless.
“The OU football program without Texans..smart enough to get the hell out of Texas if they want a chance to win more than 2 Big 12 championships since the Big 12 inception…please see Texas football program” Priceless…
.
hey Berry,
do u suppose that coach Stoop might have taken notice that gator might pull a “utah kind of playing plans?”
any chince u might be able to ask coach Stoop about this?
.
Isn’t OU football on probation for an NCAA record 6th time AS WE SPEAK???bwaaaaahahahahahahahahahaha! If OU didn’t cheat Texas would dominated the series EVEN WORSE than they already have. I do like this blog though with the head OU cheerleader writing the story.. LOL…..CHOMP CHOMP CHOMP
Well Sooner fans I am a UT grad and big fan. — The NC
game is being played by the best two teams in the country. That is Florida and OU. OU has gotten better and Texas has retreated since they played each other FOR SURE. Lastly UTAH deserve to be placed #2 as they are undefeated and beat the s### out of Alabama. UTAH should have shown the voters they deserve it. Good luck to the Sooners but my hunch is Florida will win.
So, the best team in the Big 12 (Texas), can barely get by the second best Big 10 team?
This means OU is in for a world of hurt against Florida.
how come everybody talks about texas losing to tech on last play of game, but no one says anything that texas was behind
most of that game? now we have texas behind in this game with
ohio state and winning with 16 seconds left but are great when they do it. I guess I dont get it. i guess there is magic with texas I don’t see.
It would have been better for Texas if they would have won big. Because as it stands ESPN “experts” are gonna push for USC to share the national championship by getting the AP title unless someone wins huge and just watch how many radio and newspaper sports “gurus” jump on the band wagon. Give credit where its due, Penn State dominated the 4th quarter and made a game out of it (they were just 2 plays from a totally different outcome). But the “experts quit watching at half time.
ok, first of all, texas always has been and always will be number one! ou only knows how to f*** up things. and unlike the little queer bradford, who has to buy heisman tropheys, colt wins them fairly. the national championship game was played last night, and texas is our champs again. lets see, how many title games has ou won rightly? noooooone!!!! THEY SUCK!!!! ou sucks!!!! yes mack can vote texas #1. and he has to do it after the game. GO LONGHORNS!!!! and congrats on being our 2009 bcs national champions again. and as far as ou fans, ALL OU FANS ARE GAY!!!!!!!!! THIS IS LONGHORN COUNTRY!!!!
Um, isnt Big Game Bob 1-7 in his last 8 BCS and RRS games?? Also, isnt his program on major NCAA probation right now??OU is going to get their brains beat out in a game they only got in to because of a computer mistake and I bet this Friday this OU writer and all you fans will still be here pumping each other about how great OU is. Please set down the crimson coolaid and live in REALITY!!
Well, Texas is definetly a low rider in this case. Texas fans are saying no way should Utah be ranked above them in the finals polls, because it was only one game!!!! LOL LOL Now, refresh my memory, wasn’t it the Texas fans who were saying that they beat OU and the head to head should be all that counts. Also, that the seasons worth of games should not count as much and those same fans side stepped their loss to Texas Tech. That loss didn’t matter, because OU beat them so bad, LOL LOL Texas will cry again next year with that monster of a schedule; 4-8 Wyoming, 4-8 UCF, 4-8 Louisiana Monroe and the powerhouse 5-7 UTEP a combines 17-31 with NO bowls.
Mack’s comments are just more evidence to Sooner fans (and short horns) why Bob Stoops name is mentioned for NFL head coaching vacancy’s, rather the Mack. He’s obviously been drinking too much of the orange cool aide…

I did not know that Colt McCoy had won a HEISMAN as BRADFORD did, LOL What a FOOL you are, LOL
I really do not understand how Texas fans can bash their OWN???? Yes, Oklahoma’s roster is made up of mostly Texans, proud Texans who are willing to reloctae to be CHAMPIONS. Texas did not want most of these players and Oklahoma did, but why bash your neighbors son for being a wise person. Maybe it is, because YOU are the village idiot, possible. I think you would show at least a little pride in those players, yet you say without those Texas players we would be NO better than the OLD Kansas Jayhawks. LOL Maybe, it is because our coaches know how to coach and do not need a top 5 recruiting class every year.
What team wouldn’t want a guy like Stoops who loses big games with such jaw dropping consistency. Or maybe Broncos owner & OU grad Bowen is another OU homer who lives with his head in the sand. Folks, we are talking about a University and fan base that chose to name a University building after Barry Switzer so really nothing is out of the realm of possibility.
Tom: Here’s the cold hard facts:
USC or Texas will not be national champions. Get over it. USC can rave about how nobody in the country can beat them. It doesn’t matter. Texas can rant about beating the Sooners three months ago. It doesn’t matter.
There’s only going to be one national champion and one crystal ball handed out. That ball is either going to reside in Gainesville, or in Norman. Deal with it.
To be fair, Texas has an argument. You can call it weak, but it has just as much merit as either OU or Florida will have since they finished the season with one loss.
Of course, none of them have an argument against Utah who still hasn’t been beaten.
Bash the system, if you like, but there is no clear champion, and you can’t pretend a single game that features a team who didn’t even win their conference division outright settles the argument.
There is no clear champion. Texas has an argument (even though I hate them) especially if OU wins b/c they are the only team that beat OU. Of course Utah has the ultimate argument. It is too bad that b/c of their conference they had no shot at playing in the National Championship Game.
Hmm interesting quote by Tom “Sooners simply is not in the same breath”??? What the bleep is this guy trying to say?
[...] a misleading headline, "Texas has look of a champion") in the Austin American-Statesman, Berry Tramel in the Oklahoman as well as national observers Dan Shanoff, Mike Freeman (who is a terrible writer [...]
Not sure Rick…. sounds eerily like an cowboy fan with the slam on Bob, since that seems to be what they all focus on since they don’t have anything of their own to talk about.
I just can’t figure out why this is so hard for people to comprehend. All of the talking, justifying, spinning, reasoning, bashing, strategizing is useless. It is what it is. The winner of the national championship game is #1 and national champs. Regardless of whether it is Florida or Oklahoma. Case closed. To be blunt, the rest of the teams are not #1, they are losers, whether they be 2nd place losers, 3rd place losers, etc.
Why is this difficult for people to accept?
Give the non-BCS schools their own championship. Split up D-1 into class just they do with the high schools. BCS, the smaller schools and then the really small guys (IVY League, Military schools, schools that have just jumped up to D-1). As good as any idea so far.
Randy – how old are you? like 11? I dearly hope you arent a grown man saying TUCK FEXAS, what? did you hear that from your little 4 year old mentally challenged boy? haha get a life. I dont think texas deserves to be number 1, and im not going to say that USC deserves that ranking… im gonna watch the game and see how it turns out.. if both teams play bad and its a close game.. usc gets number 1. if theres a blow out.. that team takes the title (my vote is for florida) that is all.
Why is it so hard for people to accept?? Because MNCs are MYTHICAL. There is no playoff so games are played and the a vote is taken and in some years the result is completely inconclusive. OU claims the 1974 team won the “National Title” because one of the polls voted that way. Never mind that that team was banned from post season and the coaches poll for academic fraud among other things. If a team that is a banned from post season is the National Champion then Elvis is still alive and OU is better academically than UT. Whoever wins Thursday will be able to make a case that they’re the best but most of the evidence will suggest otherwise. Who has a better case than Utah?
good point jimmy.. Utah has a great case.. possibly better than USC. their only fault is their schedule
Nice picture of Colt, very natural rounding of the mouth. I bet he couldn’t wait to get back to the Marriott for some Brokeback time with Shipley.
That game looked eerily similar to the OU Texas game. Lot’s of B.S. roughing the passer calls, everybody in the stadium except the defense knew the ball was going to Shipley 75% of the time, McCoy wakes up in the 4th quarter to do just enough damage to wipe out the first 3 quarters. Come back next year Colt & Jordan, it’s been fun picking on you two lovebirds!
Do OU fans realize that the 2000 team wasn’t even Stoops team? It was John Blake’s. He’s done exactly squat with his own players. BCS meltdown number 5 Thursday.

nice article jimmy. my how quickly OU fans who NEVER went to the university of oklahoma forget that stoops didnt recruit the majority of that team! It makes me laugh everytime i see the look on a die hard ou fan’s face (whose talking crap on osu, texas teams, the bcs in general) after i ask them what year they graduated from ou? lol
Since I like to see Big Twelve teams win games, I regret to say Texas was lucky to escape with a narrow, last minute win against a team the Longhorns should have beaten badly.
Mack, of course, has his vote. No one thinks he will use it any other way than he promised. But, the truth is that he and his team barely justified being placed in the game they were. Certainly, there was nothing in their sad performance to indicate they deserved better consideration.
Be grateful you squeezed out a win Mack, and retire quietly to Austin until next football season.
Jimmy and John
You guys are wanna-bes. It’s sad, get a life of your own. For two people that don’t seem to respect the University of Oklahoma, you two sure waste alot of time and energy reading about it and researching it.
That’s one of the dumbest comments I’ve ever read about the graduation. Please tell me you are not serious in thinking that the majority of fans should have graduated from the university they are fans of… please…. I am worried for you.
so you’re telling me that you didnt graduate from ou tanya? Im just saying that i dont see how someone could bleed crimsom and cream when they didnt even attend the university? doesnt make sense
Nothing justified UT being placed in that game unless you count BEATING OU ON A NEUTRAL FIELD BY DOUBLE DIGITS. Yes, UT was in the wrong game, that’s for sure. As for you Tanya I could have gone to OU had I wanted to. Thankfully, I didn’t have to resort to the my last choice for college.
and fyi, i graduated from a university. not a vo-tech school, not a 2 year college, a UNIVERSITY. i dont know if you can even say that same.. so go back to your trailer park and fry something.
Being a Sooner fan is a lot like being in the Special Olympics. Even if you win, you’re still retarded!
So excited to see Big Game Bob and Chokelahoma cough up their 5th straight BCS game. “Oklahoma, where the wins keep slippin down the drain.”
You guys are funny… typical envious haters…. I expect no less. And again, you never fail to deliver with your thinly veiled jealousy of OU.
As for you, John, if you think that someone can’t be a diehard fan unless they’ve graduated from a university they are a fan of, you obviously know nothing about the passion of college football, and that is sad. Actually, no I didn’t graduate from OU, I’m a self employed business owner that didn’t need a degree to earn more than what both of you make. If I wanted, I could have obtained TWO degrees from there with all of the money I’ve donated to the university. Got it?
As for you, Jimmy, it’s probably a good thing that you didn’t go to OU as your ‘last choice’, I have a feeling you wouldn’t have fit in anyway…. we’ll leave it at that. And hey.. guess what??… Texas is NOT going to play for the championship. Yes, that’s right. Too bad. Too bad that they beat OU before.. because you know what? It means NOTHING now! Get it? Beat the dead horse all you want, because that’s all you’ve got!! They will still be on the outside looking in. Doesn’t matter if OU wins, or loses, Texas WON”T BE THERE and they won’t be #1.
I’ve had enough of you losers.
OK OK OK ppl, rip Texas all you want! Im not a fan of either school, but you ppl make me sick!! If Stoops said he was gonna vote OU #1 if the roles were reveresed, yall would be singing his praises and griping about how OU got screwed out of a nat. title. For the love of God, shut up and be thankful that your in the stupid game–GEEZ!!!!
Jealous of what Tanya? You’re uncanny ability to choke when the spotlight is brightest. I’ll take our Fiesta Bowl win, 3 for 3 in the BCS, and 6 straight bowl wins and the respect of the nation over being the laughing stock everytime were on the big stage.
2007 – West Virginia 48, Oklahoma 28
2006 – Boise State 43, Oklahoma 42
2004 – USC 55, Oklahoma 19
2003 – LSU 21, Oklahoma 14
Truth hurts Sooners!
John boy, So proud of graduating from a “University,” but not so proud to name it? Must be Phoenix University, huh? Sean, Are you not aware that referring to people as being retarded, could hurt someone’s feelings? Have you ever had the privelege of knowing a retarded child or adult? And lastly, OU football on major probation? Wow! I must really have my head in the sand with horse blinders on to boot. And the 6th one at that! Watching all their games and reading all their articles, it’s hard to believe the commentators and media hasn’t pounced all over that. I guess I’ve really been in the dark so long…who’s playing in the NCG?
The media has talked about OU scandals a time or two. I wonder if this photo is framed in the Barry Switzer Center. Pooooor pooooooor Okies and their tarnished legacy.
http://vault.sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/cover/featured/9160/index.htm
I wish you people had somthing intelligent to say, instead of insulting people you don’t even know. Must be Aggies.
OU better put 7 or 8 in the box on defense and blitz on every down and hit Tebow so hard he can remember his name.
With all the crying that Mack has done, he does have one more shot at a National Title this year. He could beg that other loser from Texas by the name of BUSH to appoint Texas as National Champions.
walker, steve, paula,…..can’t have a ‘reasonable’ argument soooooooo you make up facts, call names, and then you bring up an indiscrection by a “Texas” boy named bomar who was summarially kicked off the team. It will be such a fine night Thursday when OU kicks over 60 points on this “vaunted” sec defence. pooooor tejas,,, couldn’t beat a second tier team by more than three. Thanks ut for the wake up call, but it wouldn’t have happened if Reynolds hadn’t been hurt. And by the way, does 39-33 ring a bell?? Then 65-21 should too. Eat more grass moo cows, you ain’t nearly high enough.
Hey I think steve has a great game plan.I dont think bowl games are what they used to be before the BCS.Utah was highly motivated,Bama didnt even look like the team that played the Gators.Same for Texas,TT,Mizzou,OSU.Outside of Texas I would say the beatdowns they suffered at the hands of Sooners affected them to no end.You get yur bubble busted sometimes you run out of air.As for texas,Mack needs to SHUTUP,he is starting to affect his beloved players he fights so hard for in an unfair world. I really think the guy is headed for a Woody Hayes moment at next years RRR when his boys are getting the mother of all beatdowns, because the Sooner Nation is getting very tired of all this whining and BS
OU loses a ton of talent(that lost to UT this year…as usual….3 of 4 etc.). UT is going to lay a serious BCS style whoopin on the hapless stoolers come October. Might be a good time for “Big Game” Bob to bail out!! LMAO
Walker, Does what ring a bell? Is OU on major probation? You don’t know a thing about the OU program. As soon as Stoops found out about the infraction, Bomar was dismissed from the squad. And guess what? Guilty or not, Stoops would not have been required to dismiss Bomar. I for one was very supportive of Bob. Bomar was suppose to be the next greatest QB of all times for OU, yet Bob let him go anyway. I won’t argue with facts…dig up a fact and post it in regard to OU being placed on major probation. Oh wait, you can’t. Please stop posting your crap.
Walker,I dont think we lose as much as you prayfully wish we would,O-line is the only area. Sam’s back with another years growth and we may have a freshman DT,you know the one that threw Mackey boy out of his house.Yall are still stuck with that wannabe Heisman guy that will never play pro ball.
TEXAS IS CLASS,
SOONERS ARE CRASS.
GATORS WILL FEED
ON O/U AND THE PASS.
GATORS WILL TRASH,
THE SOONERS FOND HOPES.
AND LEAVE DEAR OLD BOOMER,
AGAIN ON THE ROPES!
SOONER LOSERS!!!!
Why are so many whiney TX fans posting on an Oklahoman board? I knew UT fans were whiney after living there for eight years, but they have gone to a new lower level on here.
OSU did not have its best team this year but only lost to UT by three points and Mack Brown thinks they should be #1 — give us all a break.
Let Utah or Boise State join a BCS conference and until then they do not deserve to be in the Championship game. Why is that so difficult to understand?
Texas losing to AR in basketball tonight — priceless!
Yes, OU is on major probation. I refer you to the NCAA website. IT IS A FACT. As for Bomar…he stunk…bad. That was no loss at all and oh yea I’m sure that Bomar and that other player were the only 2 taking money under the table. And how about AP test driving a Lexus from Big Red Auto for 3 months. Was he punished by Stoops for that?? No, you see he was valuable to the team. I mean seriously did the homer media up there keep that from you guys or what? OU is going to get stomped on Thursday and destroyed next October. Bradford(who lost to UT 45-35 this year LOLOLOL) is gone as are most of the great OU lineman. You guys are toast. Believe it…it’s real.
I’m a TTU grad & an OU fan but here’s the solution to all this BCS whining: Do away with all the conference championships-if a team can’t beat the other teams in the conference during the season, why should they get another chance? The team with the best conference record wins the conference. Have tiebreakers to settle it like they already do & then: Take the all the conference champs – who presumably will already be in the top 16 teams, put them in a playoff system like NCAA basketball. At the end you have a winner. Then you reward the teams that win. Win big, win ugly, doesn’t matter.
That way you’re not screwing teams like Utah who had a great season.
Mack Brown can still whine about his bracket (if he gets in) but at least things will be more settled at the end of the year.
And finally I can’t resist: why was Tech’s last second win over UT a fluke but UT’s last second win over Ohio State was a great victory?
Tech’s last second win vs TEXAS?….or Baylor….or Nebraska??? LOL. Leach is a weasel. His coaches vote bordered on outright fraud. Pooors sand aggies.

I like the picture at the top of this blog, which is OU Quarterback and famous Texas Longhorn coach Darrell K Royal. Coincidently, Texas football stadium is named after the OU QB and native Oklahoman! Boomer!
