I've read the Boys of Summer and I thought it was incredible and I am not even that big of a baseball fan.

I would have to put "Sesasons In Hell" by Mike Shropshire well above most of the Bill James books.

I'm not much of a baseball guy but I do love history so I'll check out Babe, Joe DiMaggio, and The Boys of Summer.

It seems like back then baseball reflected what was going on in the rest of the country. Players were going to war, gambling was prominent, racial tensions. If the country was in a recession then so were the sports teams and athletes. Now there's nothing about the professional athlete that is representative of the common person.

I really enjoyed "The Catcher Was a Spy" by Nicholas Dawidoff. It is about the life of Moe Berg. It's a good mixture of baseball and espionage.
