Berry -- no apologies necessary in your column regarding Jason White and Josh Heupel. Mildren was a giant on the Oklahoma football landscape, who's shadow is seen decades later, for as long as Sooners pitch, run, and throw the ball. I know you're a believer that Leroy Selman was OU's best player, but did the University ever have a greater, tougher, athletic warrior than Jack Mildren? The class of 1949 and it's veterans defined the term off the field -- but on a football field, Mildren had to stand near the top of that list. History turned the day Switzer brought him to Norman. We were blessed to have had him. A beautifully written blog entry with every paragraph hitting home. Thanks...

I first met Jack in 1968 at the Texas High School coaches all star game. I was in high school and got his autograph. Two years later we were team mates at OU and became lifelong friends. Jack Mildren and Steve Aycock were the toughest players I ever met. Their must be something in the water in West Texas. They are both gone now. For me 58 feels pretty old. I do miss those guys.
