Twisting in the wind

The Oklahoma State basketball saga continues to play out, and I believe there will be a quick resolution because I think the Cowgirls’ success probably delayed decisions about the Cowboys. I believe athletic director Mike Holder didn’t want to do anything to take away from OSU’s success story in the NCAA women’s tournament, and he probably was right. Yea or nay on Sean Sutton would have eclipsed news about Kurt Budke’s bunch.

But the Cowgirls now are eliminated, and this week has to produce the verdict on Sutton. I don’t know what Holder is thinking, and it’s possible he hasn’t known what to do and is just trying to decide. But it doesn’t look good for Sutton. If I’m playing amateur psychologist, I would guess that Holder wants to make a change but is reluctant to pull the trigger.

Do I believe Holder when he said he hasn’t talk to any prospective coaches or any representatives of prospective coaches? Yes. Do I believe that there has been no communication between prospective coaches or their reps and anyone from OSU or its reps? No. This is a seedy business, and the coaches make it so. They always are on the prowl for other jobs. Always ready to jump a contract for a better landing.

Coaches smelled hyde when Sutton struggled, so of course some of them expressed interest in a Stillwater address. Let me promise you, OU officials — or people who could get in contact with OU officials — heard from agents of coaches when Jeff Capel’s departure seemed possible. That’s the way the business works.

So is it up or down on Sutton? I have no idea, but if I was guessing, I would say he’s gone. A meeting yesterday, another meeting scheduled today, I guess you could read that both ways. But the signs aren’t strong for Sutton.

I keep saying it and I want to say it again…Sean would not have been hired as coach, if he were at another school or another job. And he has proven that he can not motivate this team. When he call his team over for a time out he stands there like a lost kid. I, for one will take anyone with a little life in them.
Another year, will only bring more of the same. He is probably a nice guy, but not a good head coach, at this time of his life.

Obviously Jim B can’t distinguigh the past from the present (Sean WAS HIRED) or a good win from a bad one. Maybe she missed that win over the #4 team in the country and the nice run of wins around it. A better question is whether Holder could ever be an AD at any place in the country outside State if he didn’t have his hands in a $B guy’s pocket.

JeffB,

Who hired Sean? Who hired Budke? Any difference in the results of these hires? Get a life and think before you engage your nimble fingers in the act of typing.

Well Berry, it is the morning after, and I have read your front page article. Now I have one or two questions.
Why is the feud between Eddie and Mike Holder downplayed? Eddie wanted Harry Birdwell as AD after Terry Don left and kept Mike Holder from getting the job. Not one of this paper’s reporters or any other media outlets had the stones to address that elephant in the room.
My next question is how do you know Mike Holder loves OSU? He built his own little kingdom wth his success raising money for Karsten Creek, and has sought to exzand his power and reach since then, by selling his soul and apparently OSU’s soul to Boone Pickens. It is a sad day for OSU.
It is a sadder day for Oklahoma, because once again, it is evident that we don’t have any journalist in the state who will stand up and question the obvious abuse of power by the powerful. The most frightening fact is that this is just sports, but if there isn’t a commitment to ferret out the truth in sports, then there won’t be in other matters either.
