Looks like LSU
The coaches poill came out today, and LSU is ranked No. 2. OU is third, Georgia fourth, Virginia Tech fifth and USC sixth. Not perfect, but give the coaches credit. They adjusted.
For five, maye six decades, voters have been robotic. Someone loses, move down. Someone wins, move up. Someone idle, no great change. But sometimes, poll voting requires a little study. Like when asking which SEC deserved to be ranked higher, Georgia or LSU? The recent love affair with Georgia was rooted in what, exactly? The Bulldogs’ victory over Florida, I suppose.
But to rank a conference champion below a team in the same conference that didn’t even win its division? Nonsense. Easy call. The voters lifted conference champions of leagues with title games ahead of other contenders. LSU, OU and V-Tech all are ahead of USC. All three teams won Saturday.
I don’t know that I would vote USC below Virginia Tech, but I like the sentiment of adjusting to events. Voters were faced with the prospect of lifting Georgia into the national title game when the Bulldogs didn’t even make the SEC title game. Nonsense, they said. Bully for them, I say.

Stupid!…that is what I think (and what I might be……I know).
Everyone has loved LSU all year. Why? What do they have? They have been in overtime games and close games all season, which means they didn’t have the strength to get it done in regulation.
OU should go beyond LSU in this thing. Beating the number one team should mean more. Yes, we lost twice. But our two losses are not worse then Arkansas(can’t throw the ball and play less defense then toll booth attendent) and Kentucky (how well did THEY play down the stretch?)
Is the SEC so much better then everyone else? Or just inflated by the media? Is MSU and Ole Miss, Vandy and So Carolina, Alabama, even Arkansas or Tennessee better then the worst half of the Big Twelve or Big 11 or ACC. I would say it is a pretty even split. That goes for the top teams as well as evidenced by the weekly knocking off of any number two team. Anyone on any given day. Pitt proved that Saturday night. They should have gotten wrecked…..what, playing away and with less talent.
And Ohio State……..this is a travesty and is exactly what the Big 11 does and why they are chicken $%#@ to play another conference game or a conference title game. They were the same way in basketball until the system dictated differently. It will stay this way in the “Run between the tackles” conference until the NCAA makes some changes in that regard as well. You should not be able to schedule Youngstown State, Kent State and the Zips and get in the big game by sitting around and with one qualtiy win. Garbage!
My rant is over. OU moved to number 3 at least, so that showed some respect. Bugs me that Les is ahead of us. What is with his act anyway?
he called Arkansas….R-Kansas on the radio the week that they played. He can’t say it right? Glad they got beat. They are indeed over-rated and so is their conference.
Hope you all had a great weekend!
Go Sooners!
you should be elated. this will keep you from being humiliated in another big game. the big 12 is a joke. the north is so over rated it’s pathetic. they look great playing themselves. how many coaches in the big 12 can the normal fan name? two? they only know mangino this year because he’s so recognizable (fat). maybe if your coaching staff had the sense to play it’s back-ups you wouldn’t be in this spot. lsu won their conference title game with a back-up quarterback. stop blaming the other schools and look in the mirror jeff from vermont.
I have said the BCS is ridiculous from the beginning . I don’t care if we were #1 or #2 – this is no way to determine a champion. Trying to legitimize this is foolish. We won the Big XII, we are going to a major bowl to play an excellent opponent (I really hope White is 100%) – that’s all I need out of a seaon (well, actually, a win in the Bowl would be nice). Unless you get two undefeated teams from the major conferences – and no one else is undefeated, then it’s just Water Cooler Champ. In fact, instead of a crystal football, they should change it to a crystal water cooler. I will declare anybody I want as national champ – as of right now, it’s between Ohio State, LSU, Oklahoma, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, USC and Hawaii. While they really don’t belong, let’s just add Central Florida as the Conference USA Champ and have a a playoff. Now, there is a novel idea.
SO WHEN CENTRTAL FLORIDA BEATS OU IN YOUR SYSTEM, YOU WOULD BE HOLLERING THAT AN INFERIOR TEAM WON, ON A BAD CALL, OR A SLOPPY FIELD, AND THE REAL NATIONAL CHAMP IS STILL OU!! LEAVE THE SYSTEM ALONE, ITS, (ANY BOWL GAME)JUST PLAYED FOR THE EXTRA MONEY, AND TO GIVE THE PLAYERS AND COACHES A NICE VACATION, (UNLESS ITS IN IDAHO), THE BIG ADVERTISING BUCKS, AND THE BOOSTERS HAVING AN EXCUSE TO TAKE ANOTHER VACATION AND GET DRUNK.
i just wanted to tell you that i read you column almost everyday and i almost never agree with anything you say. today i heard you on the sportsanimal talking about a playoff and i total agree with you about win your conference and your in. it would simplify everything. you can’t leave out the a 12-0 team just because they are in a weak conference. that would be a playoff that i would like to see.
LSU’s 12th Man
Least we forget the guys in stripes put LSU in the national championship! Don’t tell me you don’t remember the Ref putting his yellow hankie back in his pocket on the fourth down tochdown with six tigers on the line against Alabama. But that wasn’t good enough for the Tigers– with a rabbit’s foot in their pocket: the spot of the ball in front of the yard marker instead of behind the yard marker which gave them a first down that in turn allowed a win that they didn’t win.
The only college team that lost more than Alabama in that game was Mizzou when the Orange Basket went to Kansas because they have a nice history??? What did he say???

The whole thing is ridiculous. Besides determining the mythical national champion this way, the other thing that stinks is the stupid bowl tie ins – at the very least, why couldn’t they just let us go to the Rose Bowl and play USC? That game would overshadow the “Allstate
BCS Championship” game .
