Sorting out the Big 12 South

After OSU’s 38-35 meltdown loss to Texas, and before OU’s game against Texas A&M, here’s how the Big 12 South shakes out. If OSU wins out, including a Bedlam win, it still needs a Texas loss to win the South. If OSU, OU and Texas finish in a three-way tie, OU wins the tiebreaker, since OSU would be eliminated by a worse intradivision record, then the Sooners would emerge with its victory over Texas.

If OU beats A&M tonight and Baylor next week, the Sooners could clinch the South at Texas Tech on Nov. 17, provided Kansas beat OSU next Saturday.

The OSU loss ruined what could have set up Nov. 24 as quite a day for the Big 12. A conference semifinals day, and maybe a national quarterfinals day, with OU and OSU playing for the South title, and Missouri and Kansas playing for the North title, the winners to meet the next week in San Antonio for the title, with the winner of THAT hoping for a berth in the Big Bowl in New Orleans. Now, it looks like only Mizzou-KU will have national title considerations.
