Coaches have harebrained idea

Mike Gundy said he would like to have a preseason scrimmage against another school. Bob Stoops endorsed the idea, too.

Here’s the problem guys. You’ve already got one. Or two. Or sometimes three.

Of all the harebrained ideas, this has to rank near the top. Coaches want quality competition, just not when the scoreboard is turned on. In September, OSU already is scrimmaging
Sam
Houston
State and Florida
Atlantic. Those are not games. Those are not contests the Cowboys possibly could lose.
OU’s two scrimmages are against slightly better programs, North Texas and Utah State, but the one-sidedness of the competition is the same.

When coaches endorse equality in scheduling, when coaches quit talking about opponents that help you ease into conference play, then we can talk about inter-squad scrimmages. Until then, forget about it.

Here we go again. Local media hypes put OSU on the perch. Here is a program that is even with Baylor the last two years in conference games ( in 2005 they were losing 35-0 to Baylor at one point) yet its assumed all their games are winnable. Yet, OSU has a historu of losing or struggling in non-conference games. Losses to Wichita State, Tulsa, West Texas coupled with an overtime win over Southwest Missouri arent shining moments. Yes, OSU will probably win the games mentioned ( and should), its not a mortal lock. The program ” on the rise” is treated as barely above average in the rest of the country but elevated to Stud status by the OKC media and its efoort to be “fair” with OU looming. But when hoops gets here, move the hell out of the way for the Sutton steamroller !! I really hope that OSU decides that alcohol is a major problem in its program and that perhaps, just perhaps, the Suttons arent equipped to handle this problem. … Bobby Reid may be Vince Young this year, but I doubt it. Not every player from Houston who is fast, black and tall will be Vince. Young was a rare gem not measured by type but by unique talents few possess. Reid is exciting at times and can be good but lets a grip on reality. OSU is still an unproven commodity in football and Gundy is unproven as a coach. Before OSU prints BCS tickets they should not consider any game ( save for Howards team) to be a win including Sam Houston State. Maybe Bomar can get a beer in Stillwater after the game with the poke roundballers!
