The American Hockey League released its realigned divisions Wednesday and, as expected, the Oklahoma City Barons are in the West Division of the Western Conference.

The alignment keeps the Barons, the first-year AHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers, in the division with their closest opponents.

The rest of the division features the Chicago Wolves (Atlanta Thrashers affiliate), Houston Aeros (Minnesota Wild), Milwaukee Admirals (Nashville Predators), Peoria Rivermen (St. Louis Blues), Rockford IceHogs (Chicago Blackhawks), San Antonio Rampage (Phoenix Coyotes) and Texas Stars (Dallas Stars). The Stars were the Calder Cup runners-up this season, losing to the Hershey Bears earlier in the week.

The North Division of the conference features Abbotsford, Grand Rapids, Hamilton, Lake Erie, Manitoba, Rochester and Toronto.

The Barons open the home portion of their season Oct. 9 at the Cox Center.

This is a very good division…..Excellent alignment

I was hoping to see Grand Rapids play here since I am from Detroit. Real hockey is coming to OKC finally!!

Great to see hockey’s return since the l935 Warriors who played in old ancient Stockyards Coliseum, and the Blazers initial residence at the State Fair Arena and the Oklahoma City Stars/Blazers making the old Myriad home and the Blazers short-lived era at OKC’s Ford Center.

The Cox Convention Center Arena will provide good sightlines as Oklahoma City Barons mark the City’s return to AAA hockey. There shouldn’t be any complaints about seating unless all the fat folks have expanded their waistlines and the skinny people fall between the cracks.

Oklahoma City, you’ve made great strides in hockey.

Let’s support our Oklahoma City Barons…
