Today’s featured event:
Celebrate National Wear Red Day for Women and Heart Disease Awareness, which is today, during a special “The Art of the Heart” Paseo Arts District First Friday Gallery Walk from 6 to 10 p.m. in the historic arts district.
The Paseo Arts Association is partnering with the Oklahoma Heart Hospital for its 2012 Paseo Arts Association Members’ Show. They are working together to promote heart health through the arts. Selected works will be displayed at the Paseo Art Space and in the lobbies of the two Oklahoma Heart Hospitals.
Everyone is encouraged to wear red to raise awareness of womens’ risk for heart disease.
The opening reception for the Members’ Show will be from 6 to 10 tonight in the Paseo Art Space, 3022 Paseo. Various galleries will be distributing tote bags, as well as pedometers, recipe cards, and other heart-healthy items, and many of the districts artists have created artwork that incorporates the color red.
Oklahoma State University fashion merchandising students will be displaying red dress sketches and finished dresses at a.k.a. Gallery, 3001 Paseo. The public will be asked to vote for best design, and the winner will win a cash award.

Born in St. Louis, but completely Okie bred – that is, until moving to France – Susan began performing there, busking in the streets, then playing regularly with a group of fellow-vagabonds in Auvergne, in Provence, and in the Dordogne, and then on into Greece. These past several years have also seen her gigging relentlessly from Okemnukov, Ukraine, to Okemah, Oklahoma, and playing and touring in venues from Tennessee and Arkansas to Nebraska, Missouri, and Kansas and into New Mexico, Colorado, Texas and Florida.

The group will head out on tour with Radiohead next month and play the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, Calif., in April.
“It’s definitely something we feel like we’re a very, very lucky band to be able to have that opportunity,” frontman Jesse Tabish told The Oklahoman Entertainment Editor Gene Triplett about touring with Radiohead.
“It’s just gonna be kind of a different world, and at the same time, a gig’s a gig, and we’ll be playin’ tunes that we know and so, yeah, we’re really looking forward to it.”
Meanwhile, don’t expect another full-length Other Lives album until sometime in mid- to late 2013, although Tabish has managed to write some new music in the last few hectic months.
“I definitely want to record the record in Oklahoma,” he told Gene. “You know, working and recording from Oklahoma, I feel that I kind of get to be isolated from the fast-paced coast. You know, that’s why we’ve continued to live here. I’m an Okie. Everything’s a little bit slower-paced, and that’s conducive to the kind of music we want to make and the kind of time that we need to spend on a record.”
