The nominations for the People’s Choice Awards 2010 were announced today at the SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif., by Kris Allen (”American Idol”), Cat Deeley (”So You Think You Can Dance”), Johnny Galecki (”The Big Bang Theory”), Jeff Probst (”Survivor”) and Sofia Vergara (”Modern Family”).

For the first time, fans voted at www.peopleschoice.com and cast more than 16 million votes to determine the nominees in categories such as favorite movie, favorite breakout artist and favorite TV obsession.

The classic children’s series “Sesame Street” celebrates four decades of teaching children to read, count and sing with the new two-disc DVD set “Sesame Street: 40 Years of Sunny Days.” The DVDs include five hours of favorite moments and songs, celebrity segments and backstage footage.

Families also can add the latest Disney/Pixar release, “Up,” to their DVD collections today, while comic book fans can invest in the Ultimate Edition of the “Watchmen” film.

The American Music Awards nominations were announced today, and country-pop star Taylor Swift gained a leading six nominations.

The late Michael Jackson earned five nominations, while rapper Eminem is nominated for five AMAs.

Swift, Jackson, Eminem, Lady Gaga and Kings of Leon are competing for the top award, artist of the year.

Kings of Leon, who have Oklahoma ties, earned two other nominations, for favorite pop/rock band, duo or group and favorite alternative rock artist.

Kings of Leon’s single “Use Somebody” has hit the No. 1 spot on the Top 40 Radio charts in both airplay and audience, according to a news release from RCA Records.

Interestingly, this is happening one year after the album “Only By The Night” was released. At this point, with all the radio “Use Somebody” is getting in all the formats, the song is reaching a cumulative audience of 100 million on the Hot 100. The album has sold 1.3 million copies in America to date.

“Twilight Saga” author Stephenie Meyer revealed the hotly anticipated soundtrack listing to the sequel “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” today on her Web site.

All of the music is original and exclusive to the soundtrack, according to her post.

Along with the expected contribution from Meyer’s favorite band, Muse, the soundtrack will include songs from Radiohead’s Thom Yorke, The Killers and Grizzly Bear.

Muse is providing a remixee version of “I Belong to You” from its new album “The Resistance.”

Rockers Kings of Leon, who have Oklahoma ties, are working on several project this fall and starting to focus on the followup album to their 2008 platinum release “Only by the Night.”

In an interview with Billboard.com, drummer Nathan Followill said the band is planning to release a live DVD that was filmed in July at London’s O2 Arena. The show featured some “choice rarities” for the DVD.

Rockers Kings of Leon, who have Oklahoma ties, performed their single “Use Somebody” Monday night on “The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien.”

The band also performed a trio of songs a few weeks ago on the “Today” show.
