Video: Ella Mae Bowen’s “Girl on Fire,” inspired by “The Hunger Games”

It’s “Hunger Games” Week here on BAM’s Blog, and the excitement isn’t just reserved for the movie. On Tuesday, the soundtrack “The Hunger Games: Songs from District 12 and Beyond” was released.

Produced by 12-time Grammy-winning soundtrack guru T Bone Burnett, the album features an eclectic lineup of 17 new and exclusive tracks by many of music’s top artists, including Tishomingo country music star Miranda Lambert and her Pistol Annies, Taylor Swift, The Civil Wars, Arcade Fire, Kid Cudi, Maroon 5, The Decemberists and more.

I had the chance to talk last week to vintage country-folk duo Secret Sisters about contributing to the soundtrack. Look for my interview with them as well as my review of the soundtrack Friday here at BAM’s Blog, on NewsOK and in the Weekend Look section of The Oklahoman.

But the soundtrack won’t include “Girl on Fire,” which 16-year-old country artist Ella Mae Bowen penned with her producer Seth Bolt of the band Needtobreathe after reading and getting inspired by “The Hunger Games” books, according to EW.com. Bowen was among the many artists invited to submit songs for “Hunger Games” soundtrack consideration, and her song is really ethereal and beautiful but didn’t make the cut.

Still, Bowen, who is working on her debut album for Big Machine Records, decided to release a lyrics video and home video of the song for “Hunger Games” fans to enjoy.

“The Hunger Games,” the first film based on Suzanne Collins’ best-selling dystopian book series for young adults, opens in theaters just after midnight on Friday.

That’s tonight!

Video: Jennifer Lawrence channels Katniss Everdeen at “Hunger Games” Berlin premiere

It’s “Hunger Games” Week here on BAM’s Blog leading up to the 12:01 a.m. Friday opening of the eagerly awaited film adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ best-selling dystopian novel.

Jennifer Lawrence took a fashion cue from Katniss Everdeen at “The Hunger Games” premiere in Germany, donning a blazing red Marchesa dress that resembles the “Girl on Fire” gown that her character wears to leave an unforgettable impression on viewers of the televised death match she volunteers to fight through.

Elizabeth Banks, who plays Effie Trinket in the hotly anticipated film, also wore a fiery red dress with a nod to her flamboyant character.

See both dresses – plus hear Taylor Swift’s “Eyes Open,” one of the songs from the soundtrack, which I’ll be reviewing this week – in this video:

Video: Miranda Lambert & Pistol Annies talk “Hunger Games” soundtrack, “The Voice”

Miranda Lambert With Special Guests Chris Young and J. Niemann Tulsa, OK

It’s “Hunger Games” Week here on BAM’s Blog, and we’re kicking off with this video of country music star and Tishomingo resident Miranda Lambert and her Pistol Annies’ cohorts talking about their song on the soundtrack.

Lambert and bandmates Angaleena Presley and Ashley Monroe read Suzanne Collins’ best-selling dystopian novels and discovered they all had something in common with protagonist Katniss Everdeen. The wrote their song “Run Daddy Run” based on the books and then pitched it to T Bone Burnett, who produced “The Hunger Games: Songs from District 12 and Beyond.”

In addition, Lambert talks briefly about serving as a guest adviser for her husband Blake Shelton’s team on the hit reality TV show “The Voice,” which continues on the way to determining a Season 2 champ at 7 tonight on NBC.

Perhaps channeling the spirit of Katniss, Lambert will bring her “On Fire” tour to Tulsa’s BOK Center on April 12. For more information, go to www.bokcenter.com.
