Wednesday Video Spotlight: NFL football is almost here

Football, how we’ve missed you.

The National Football Legue opens its 91st season on Thursday when the Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints host the Minnesota Vikings at the Superdome. The game will kick off at 7:30 p.m. Oklahoma time on NBC.

This is the seventh consecutive year the NFL has saluted the Super Bowl champions with the opening game in their stadium on a Thursday in primetime.

The Indianapolis Colts aren’t playing Thursday night – they open the season Sunday in Houston against the Texans – but when pro football approaches, I always have Colts QB Peyton Manning on my mind.

Manning consistently stars in some of the football season’s funniest commercials, whether he’s shilling for MasterCard or teaming with brother Eli for the Oreo Double Stuft Racing League. Here’s a sampling of a few of my favorite Peyton Manning commercials, to celebrate the start of another NFL season:

Box Office Report for Labor Day Weekend

George Clooney’s new film The American took the top spot at the box office this holiday weekend, but it may have been helped by opening last Wednesday.  Strong holdover competition from Takers and The Expendables seems to have kept the new exploitation film Machete down in the number two spot.  People must not have been in the mood for romantic comedy because the other new film this week, Going the Distance, debuted at only number 5.

The box office totals for Labor Day weekend from the IMDB:

1.)  The American  $16.4 million ($19.5 million)

2.)  Machete  $14 million (New)

3.)  Takers  $13.5 million ($40 million)

4.)  The Last Exorcism  $8.78 million ($33.5 million)

5.)  Going the Distance  $8.61 million (New)

6.)  The Expendables  $8.5 million ($94.1 million)

7.)  The Other Guys  $6.65 million ($108 million)

8.)  Eat Pray Love  $6.25 million ($70.4 million)

9.)  Inception  $5.85 million ($278 million)

10.)  Nanny McPhee Returns  $4.67 million ($23.5 million)

Here’s a catchy quote to brighten the beginning of your week:

Ted: You’re not… Moby, are you?
Not Moby: Who?
Ted: The recording artist, Moby.
Not Moby: Oh, no.
Ted: Then why, when we said “Hey, Moby” did you come over here?
Not Moby: Oh, I thought you said Tony.
Ted: So your name’s Tony?
Not Moby: No.
