John Harkey Brandenburg to give poetry reading this afternoon in Norman

NORMAN – A poetry reading by longtime Norman author and artist John Harkey Brandenburg will begin at 2 p.m. today at the Performing Arts Studio in the Norman Depot, 200 S Jones. Brandenburg will perform new and recent poems as part of the PAS’s Second Sunday Poetry series in the free public reading.
The author of “The World in Our Absence,” a Renegade poetry chapbook published by Point Riders Press in 1986, Brandenburg has also self-published about 14 other books of his own poetry. He also edited a celebration of the life and art work of Margie Needham (1938-2000) to coincide with a retrospective exhibit at Individual Artists of Oklahoma Gallery in Oklahoma City in the summer of 2000.
For more than 40 years, Brandenburg has been an arts correspondent, reviewing visual arts and theatre, for The Oklahoman, as well as other publications, for which he received a Governor’s Arts Award in 1997.
A painter as well as poet, Brandenburg has shown his work in many group and individual shows in Oklahoma and several other states since about 1980. Shows of his paintings and drawings have been presented at JRB Art at The Elms gallery in Oklahoma City and at Downtown Art And Frame and Mainsite Contemporary Art galleries in Norman.
Second Sunday Poetry Readings are hosted by former Oklahoma Poet Laureate Carl Sennhenn and feature local and regional poets reading from their own body of work.
