Tulsan Zoanette Johnson is among the “American Idol” Top 40 semifinalists who will be heading to Las Vegas to perform on the stage of Cirque du Soleil’s Beatles “LOVE” Theatre at The Mirage, reports NewsOK TV blogger Melissa Hayer.
As with her audition in Oklahoma City, Johnson’s Hollywood Week tryout was a wacky and over-the-top experience. She showed off her powerful voice and impressive drumming skills with a jazzy, hastily composed original song that name-dropped the “Idol” judging panel. Keith Urban in particular seemed charmed by the performance.
The Las Vegas move is a new twist in the singing competition, during which the Top 40 will again be split by gender, Melissa reports.
In episodes airing from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, Thursday, Feb. 21, Wednesday, Feb. 27 and Thursday, Feb. 28, 10 semifinalists will perform each night. Girls will be featured Wednesdays and guys on Thursdays.
Each night, the judges will have to decide which five will stay and which five will be sent home. At the end of the first stage of the semifinals, only 20 contestants will remain.
