Video: John Fullbright rocks the Grammys pre-telecast ceremony; Bonnie Raitt wins Best Americana Album

Bearden singer-songwriter John Fullbright rocked the Grammy Awards Pre-Telecast Ceremony earlier today.

The first-time Grammy nominee gave a blistering voice, guitar and harmonica rendition of “Gawd Above,” from his debut studio effort, “From the Ground Up.”

Fullbright earned his first Grammy nomination for Best Americana Album for the widely acclaimed album, which he recorded at 115 Studios in Norman and released on his own Blue Dirt Records label.

The Okemah-area singer-songwriter and his Kickstarter-funded studio debut competed against Bonnie Raitt’s “Slipstream,” Mumford & Sons’ “Babel,” The Avett Brothers’ “The Carpenter” and the self-titled debut from The Lumineers, also nominated for the Best New Artist Grammy, in the category.

The Grammy went to Raitt’s “Slipstream,” but Fullbright drew lavish praise from Grier. The Oklahoman even opened his performance by responding to the host that “Genius is a little strong, DAG.”

Just a reminder: The 55th Annual Grammy Awards are airing from 7 to 10:30 tonight on CBS, and I will be live blogging the be show right here on BAM’s Blog.

Way to go JF. Every performance leaves me slack-jawed and star-struck. If you were an orphan, Austin, Tx would adopt you. Looking forward to your upcoming appearance on ACL. (which should have been months ago. ) may you live long and prosper.

I thought your performace was great on the Grammys. Terry Ware was my guitar teacher and the teacher of my son and grandson and a good friend, Jimmy Sparks. I think that Terry is a great guitar player and also a great person, and hope to someday get back with him. You really rocked the stage. Your FAN !!! Frankie Baldwin

Loved the performance and so proud and happy for you. Have seen you at the Blue Door in OKC on several occassions always a wonderful show. Bet we never get to sit in that close and quaint quarters to see you again. Your on your way up and up, again loved this performance.

Ditto to the performance and accolades. Well done!!

Yours is the best cd I have listened to in ages! Even given it as a gift to those I know would love it and they did! Great grit, lyrics and melodies that bring tears to my eyes! MORE!!
