Tishomingo resident Miranda Lambert and Checotah native Carrie Underwood were among the winners at the third annual American Country Awards, which were handed out Monday night in Las Vegas.
Co-hosted by Tony and Emmy winner Kristin Chenoweth, who hails from Broken Arrow, and multiplatinum country star Trace Adkins, the fan-voted ACAs were broadcast live on Fox from the Mandalay Bay Events Center.
With nine awards, including Artist of the Year, Luke Bryan received the most awards, followed by Lambert, who received three awards. Lambert earned Single of the Year: Female, Music Video of the Year: Female and Most Played Radio Track: Female for her emotional hit “Over You.”
Following her two wins this year, Underwood has earned a total of 11 ACA awards, the most ACA honors of any artist, according to a news release. Underwood received Artist of the Year: Female and Single of the Year: Vocal Collaboration for “Remind Me,” her chart-topping duet with Brad Paisley.
Lady Antebellum’s wins in Artist of the Year: Group and Single of the Year: Group, plus their five previous awards, make them the group with the most ACA honors ever.
Fans logged on to www.theacas.com to cast votes in support of their favorite country music artists not only in traditional categories, but also in a previously unrecognized area – touring – encompassing the entire spectrum of country music.
The two-hour show included performances by Chenoweth, Bryan, Lady A, Rascal Flatts (which includes Picher-bred guitarist Joe Don Rooney), Jake Owen, Kip Moore, Rascal Flatts, Jason Aldean, Dierks Bentley, Luke Bryan, Little Big Town, Keith Urban with youths from the Grammy Band Camp program and a surprise performance by Lynyrd Skynyrd with Adkins.

I was really happy to see Miranda Lambert win a couple of guitars for her and Blake, but I have to admit that I watched him on the Voice instead of the awards show when it first aired. A coworker at DISH was going on about how great all of the performances at the ACA’s were, and I knew that I had to see it. Luckily, my DISH Hopper recorded the show with PrimeTime Anytime, so I was able to catch up. I love how it records everything during primetime without me having to set a million timers, so I don’t have to worry about forgetting about a onetime event like this. I am really glad that I caught it because the performances were really great, especially Luke Bryan’s.

I find it funny that Miranda won Best Single by a female, Best Video by a female and Most played female single on the radio yet Carrie won Famel artist of the year? That makes NO SENSE at all. Happy that Miranda FINALLY won an ACA!!
