Blake Shelton is inviting his famous wife, Miranda Lambert, and his mama, Dorothy Shackleford, as well as some of his closest celebrity pals, to partake in his first holiday TV special, “Blake Shelton’s Not-So-Family Christmas.”

The star-studded hourlong special will air at 9 tonight on NBC after “The Voice,” the reality TV show that established the Oklahoma country singer as a popular television personality. The seasonal celebration also will air at 7 p.m. Friday.

“Some of my earliest memories are memories of Christmases ‘cause it’s such a big deal to me, everything from just the event to the music to the Christmas specials that used to come on TV when I was kid,” Shelton says in a behind-the-scenes clip provided by NBC.

“I always knew that I wanted to make a Christmas album if I ever could. Now, the Christmas special is the icing on the cake. And to be able to do it the way that we wanted to do it, which is have fun with it and goof around and try to make people laugh but still do the best we can as far as making some great music along the way … this has been a blast.”

The TV special will include many of the family and friends featured on the Ada native’s first yuletide album, “Cheers, it’s Christmas,” released earlier this fall. Along with his wife and mom, fellow Oklahoman Reba McEntire and “American Idol” Kelly Clarkson will join Shelton for duets on the show.

Shelton’s “The Voice” co-star Christina Aguilera, Larry the Cable Guy and Jay Leno will join the country music superstar in some of the comedy bits.

“It says it all in the title of this show, you know, ‘Not-So-Family Christmas.’ You know, me as an artist isn’t exactly me as a television personality, and I like to kick and push the limits as much as I can. I’m not an actor or a comedian, but I’m also not somebody that’s ever serious,” Shelton says.

“I wanted that to be a part of these skits and I wanted to be edgy with ‘em. And I think that’s important for me, and I think it’s important for people to see country music in that light, too. We can be edgy also.”

Just turned the channel when they bleeped the F word

Very disappointed. Was hoping for a classy Christmas show.

Swears and mocking physical disabilities?!? Nice!!

I am sorry to say the writers need to be fired. By chance are the writers the same as the Carrie Underwood special? It sucked as well.
The singer wins a couple awards and the manager capitalizes on the wins and the singer looks like an Ahole. Shame on Reba’s husband. I turned the program off. Stupid

AGain, too much profanity….and then to sing about ‘Christ’mas is a mockery to a Christian. He’s not an actor. His mother sounded like a lifelong smoker trying to sing.

Showing cartoon characters drinking liquor and shooting Rudolph….. bad taste.

Loved it, refreshing, not like the usual boring Christmas shows

Definitely a not-so-family Christmas. I love all the traditional specials, but a little humor and irreverence is refreshing.

I thought Blake Shelton pulled it off … I was laughing out loud more than once!!! The storytime part of the show was hysterical.

Show wasn’t as good as I anticipated. Poor choice of hair style for Miranda. Her hair is usually beautiful; but not this time.

it was hilarious! enjoyed every minute of Blake’s Christmas show!

Blake,
I am 68 living in Las Vegas so I can maintain my job as a teacher. My wife has had to take a job in Destin Fl. Your song with your wife touched me so much. You all are a great couple! Perry

How disappointing and distasteful!!!!

LOVED IT! LOVED THE SONG WITH MIRANDA!!

The name of the show was “Not so family Christmas.” Everyone who is complaining about how distastful it was… what were you expecting? Jeez.

Miranda looked absolutely hideous on the show tonight. She walked out taking little steps trying to walk on her clunky shoes and tilting her head back trying to keep her hair from falling in her eyes. That hair style was hideous on her. And then her fake smiling and waving at the end of the show was just awful. She looked so stiff like she was about to break the way they had her smooshed into that awful dress.

Was pretty good. Did everyone think it was a kid show?? Unfortunately Narvel is a control freak and heavily influenced the special. He is a poor excuse for a human being.

I thought it was nice for a late night adult laugh. I’m in agreement about Miranda’s hair. It was just awful! She’s usually spot-on beautiful but last night she looked incredibly awkward.

THE WRITERS AND PRODUCES OF THIS SPECIAL SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES. THEY MADE A FOOL OUT OF BLAKE AND HIS FAMILY. THIS WAS THE DUMBEST CHRISTMAS SHOW EVER. GET OUT BLAKE, BEFORE THEY TO DESTROY YOU. GO BACK TO NASHVILLE.

I was a fan of Blake until I saw the so called Christmas show. Whatever happened to class and taste. The final straw was the skit with the hunters drinking and killing Rudolph with a buckshot along with the elves and Santa. We have enough issues with guns and showing our children even in spoof it is okay to kill and laugh about it.

Funny,Funny and Funny. Hysterical. Reba,WOW!
The show was great. Let’s do it again.

This Christmas special was hilarious and serious at the same time. The skits were funny and the music was performed wonderfully. I thoroughly enjoyed it and plan on watching it again when it re-airs.

I loved it. The title itself warned you that it was not necessarily family friendly. If your kids saw Rudolph getting shot in the skit, thats on you. I thought Kelly and Reba’s dresses looked awesome ( i want Reba’s shoes) Miranda did look a little uncomfortable. The show reminded me of a good, old-fashioned variety show. Let’s face it even some of the greats were not always “politically correct” Lighten-up a bit people and get over yourselves

[...] misguided attempts to be “hip” to cash in on the holiday season, but no matter how many shitty country music stars you put in front of a live audience, the classic films we grew up with are what really give us our [...]
