Flaming Lips’ Rockabye Baby album to get vinyl reissue for Black Friday

In case you’ve forgotten what with frontman Wayne Coyne’s grenade-toting ways and all, Oklahoma City psychedelic rockers The Flaming Lips actually make really good music from time to time, and for Lips fans who have children, have we got a deal for you:

The music fans at Rockabye Baby love Record Store Day. Last April, the award-winning lullaby laboratory created “Lullaby Renditions of The Smiths,” the series’ first triple-format (CD/LP/MP3) release, for the occasion. It was a runaway hit.

Well, in honor of RSD’s annual Black Friday event, Rockabye Baby will proudly unveil Friday another extra-special release: a vinyl reissue of 2011′s “Lullaby Renditions of The Flaming Lips.”

Just like “Lullaby Renditions of The Smiths,” The Flaming Lips package will be pressed on collectible wax – pink, in this case. The eye-candy cover will also contain a download card so parents may access the Rockabye Baby lullaby magic without a turntable. And most importantly, Rockabye Baby’s music geeks have ensured that “lullabied” Lips hits like “Race for the Prize” and “She Don’t Use Jelly” are note-perfect and instantly recognizable. Accuracy is a priority on every Rockabye Baby collection, and it’s why the series is the No. 1 purveyor of instrumental lullaby versions of pop and rock hits, according to a news release.

Considering how beloved these Oklahoma alt-rockers are among music connoisseurs, “Lullaby Renditions of The Flaming Lips” seems sure to be another hot Record Store Day title. And it doesn’t hurt that “Lullaby Renditions of The Smiths “enjoyed a tremendous amount of media attention. MTVHive.com, Wired, Goldmine and more singled out the package as a standout among other limited edition offerings from Katy Perry, Mastodon and even The Flaming Lips. Spin.com highlighted this first Rockabye Baby vinyl as one of their “most anticipated and notable releases,” while Wired weighed in by saying, “Morrissey may blanch, but ‘Rockabye Baby! Lullaby Renditions of The Smiths’ could be Record Store Day’s greatest kids’ album.”

All Rockabye Baby releases are available for purchase at iTunes and Amazon. To hear samples, visit Rockabye Baby’s highly interactive website and blog (www.rockabyebabymusic.com).
