Thompson Square penning first novel, due out June 2013

Newly crown Country Music Association Vocal Duo of the Year Thompson Square will publish their first novel, titled “Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not?,” on June 4 with Howard Books, an imprint of Simon and Schuster.

The novel is based on Miami, OK, native Keifer and his wife Shawna Thompson’s chart-topping love song “Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not?” and features characters David Winters and Zoe Spark and their long, winding journey to love. Travis Thrasher, dubbed the “Nicholas Sparks of Christian fiction,” will co-author, according to a news release.

Thrown together to write the music and lyrics for their high school musical, David and Zoe have always been an unlikely pair whose differences at times drive them apart but also strengthen each other. Dating on and off throughout college, their timing never seems quite right, and they eventually go their separate ways. However, their chemistry as songwriters is undeniable, and two of their songs eventually become hits.

Despite this, the dream is never an easy path to follow, and David and Zoe both find themselves at rock bottom: David at the end of his musical aspirations and Zoe in the middle of a divorce. They come together as old friends and realize the dream was right in front of them the entire time; they just didn’t know it was in each other.

The reigning CMA and Academy of Country Music Vocal Duo of the Year, Thompson Square has earned an astounding list of accolades in their short time on the country music scene. Signed to Stoney Creek Records, the husband/wife duo’s No. 1 smash, “Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not,” earned them two Grammy nominations as well as an American Music Award nod, four CMA nominations and five CMT Music Award nominations as well as a 2012 Teen Choice Award nod for Choice Country Group. Keifer and Shawna Thompson also are winners of three fan-voted American Country Awards as well as a 2012 CMT Music Award for their follow-up smash, “I Got You.”

“Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not,” which is nearing double-platinum sales status, was the No. 1 Digital Soundscan Single for five weeks straight, the No. 1 country ringtone for 12 consecutive weeks and was iTunes 2011 Country Song of the Year. Thompson Square’s whirlwind 2011-12 saw them on national tours supporting Jason Aldean and Lady Antebellum as well as gracing the stages of “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” “Conan,” “Fox & Friends,” “Fox’s All American Concert Series” and the 45th Annual CMA Awards. Thompson Square ended 2011 as Billboard’s No. 1 New Country Artist in terms of digital sales and the No. 6 New Artist across all genres. Follow-up hits include the award-winning and infectious “I Got You” (No. 6) and the critically-lauded power ballad “Glass” (No. 15).

Thompson Square will join award-winning country star Luke Bryan on his first headlining tour, the 2013 “Dirt Road Diaries Tour,” beginning Jan. 17 in Evansville, Ind. Thompson Square’s latest hit, “If I Didn’t Have You,” is the duo’s fastest rising single to date and the first from it’s highly-anticipated sophomore album due in early 2013.
