The Global Warming Tour Featuring Aerosmith And Cheap Trick Oklahoma City, OK

Rockers Aerosmith released their 15th studio album, “Music from Another Dimension,” today, and will celebrate Thursday by launching the second leg of their “Global Warming Tour” at Oklahoma City’s Chesapeake Energy Arena.

The venerable rock ‘n’ roll band kicked off its triumphant, sold-out “The Global Warming Tour” this past summer, with critics from the New York Times, Dallas Morning News, Boston Herald and more.

After launching the tour’s second leg Thursday here in OKC, Aerosmith – Steven Tyler (vocals), Joe Perry (guitar), Brad Whitford (guitar), Tom Hamilton (bass) and Joey Kramer (drums) – will take the month-long, 14-city arena tour to New York City (Madison Square Garden), Los Angeles (Staples Center) and Las Vegas (MGM Grand Garden Arena), among other cities.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famers will be coming fully armed with career-defining hits as well as blazing songs from their new album “Music from Another Dimension,”out today on Columbia Records. They’re the only band of their stature with all-original members, according to a news release.

The tour will include special guests Cheap Trick.

“Music From Another Dimension” – recently chosen by People magazine as one of “5 Must Have Albums For Fall”- marks Aerosmith’s first studio album of all-new material in 11 years. The album was recorded in Los Angeles and at the band’s studio in Massachusetts; it was produced by Jack Douglas, Tyler and Perry, with the exception of three tracks produced by Tyler and Marti Frederiksen.

The album’s tracks include full-on rockers “Oh Yeah,” “Luv XXX” and “Freedom Fighter,” the latter featuring Johnny Depp on backing vocals.

But Tyler recently talked with The Oklahoman Entertainment Editor Gene Triplett about “Can’t Stop Loving You,” the new album’s duet with Checotah native Carrie Underwood:

“It really stemmed from Marti Frederiksen, who I co-wrote the song with,” Tyler said. “He wrote ‘Undo It’ with her. So actually it was Marti who, three years ago, and Kara (DioGuardi), who was an ‘Idol’ judge, said why don’t you just be one of the judges on ‘Idol’? and so after talking to Marti about it I went away for a stint somewhere (in rehab) for a little while to get in touch with my wild-a- – self.

“And I came out and we wrote this song, ‘Can’t Stop Lovin’ You,’ which was going to be on my solo record. Marti and I also wrote ‘It Feels So Good Loving You.’ And so I was on that roll with that side. It was going to be something for my solo stuff, but I showed this song to the band and one of the guys in the band said, ‘You’re singing it too country.’

“I said, ‘Well, that’s how I wrote it.’ I kind of wrote it like I did ‘Crying.’ There was a time when I was so brokenhearted I evoked my country roots, which I think a lot of people don’t realize I’m from the Everly Brothers. I’m not from Elvis.”
