Video: Another “Lincoln” trailer debuts, shows more of Daniel Day-Lewis’ portrayal of Abraham Lincoln

Daniel Day-Lewis in “Lincoln”

The Oscars aren’t until February, but already one of the key talking points is set: Can anyone contend with Daniel Day-Lewis’ portrayal of Abraham Lincoln in the best actor race?

I wouldn’t count on it. Another trailer for “Lincoln,” Steven Spielberg’s biopic of one of our nation’s most beloved leaders, debuted last night. Titled “Unite,” the trailer makes it even clearer that Day-Lewis will be the man to beat as he vies (“There Will Be Blood,” “My Left Foot”) for a third Oscar in the coming awards season.

Spielberg’s film doesn’t cover the whole of Lincoln’s fascinating life, instead focusing on the final days of the Civil War as Lincoln clashes with members of his cabinet over the issue of abolishing slavery.

“Lincoln” features a sterling cast, including fellow Oscar winners Sally Field and Tommy Lee Jones as well as Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Jackie Earle Haley, Jared Harris and Chickasha-born Lee Pace.

The film is due in theaters Nov. 16.
