New releases for Oct. 2, 2012: Blake Shelton releases “Cheers it’s Christmas,” his first holiday album, while Graham Colton launches new duo Sooner the Sunset

Boy, Christmas seems to come earlier every year.

Tishomingo-based country music superstar Blake Shelton, the reigning, Academy of Country Music and Country Music Association Male Vocalist of the year, released his first holiday album, “Cheers it’s Christmas,” today on Warner Bros. Records. Before you reach for your calendar, I will go ahead and verify you that it is indeed Oct. 2, 2012.

The album features several duet performances, including with Shelton’s Season 3 “The Voice” adviser Michael Bublé, his wife and fellow country superstar Miranda Lambert and a very special duet with his mother, Dorothy Shackleford. Also, Shelton and his close friend and fellow Oklahoma native Reba McEntire did a duet together for the album, marking the first time the pair has ever performed on a record together.

The album consists of classic Christmas songs that have touched the Ada native over the years. Many of the tracks also were recorded at the famous Capitol Studios with full orchestral accompaniment.

In 2008, Shelton recorded a version of Bublé’s song “Home” that garnered both artists multi-week No. 1’s and marked Shelton’s fourth career multi-week No. 1 single. For “Cheers it’s Christmas,” Bublé and Shelton have reworked the single to embody the Christmas spirit and bring you back to the holiday.

Shelton literally brings the album home with a track he sang and co-wrote with one of the most special women in his life: his mother. Nothing exemplifies Christmas like family, and with the single “Time For Me To Come Home” Shelton and his mother capture the longing for a son on the road to finally come back home for Christmastime.

In addition, Oklahoma City singer-songwriter Graham Colton marked the release of the self-titled debut EP for his new duo Sooner the Sunset. The new project features Colton and Lindsey Ray, a Maine native now located in Los Angeles.
