Video: Toby Keith reunites military serviceman and his wife during concert
Oklahoma country music superstar Toby Keith reunited a military couple onstage during his recent concert in Houston, Texas.
The Norman resident, who traveled overseas earlier this year on his 10th United Service Organization tour, invited the unsuspecting wife of a serviceman stationed in Afghanistan to sing along with him on his patriotic anthem “American Soldier,” which she did tearfully.
After the song ended, Keith’s guitarist launched into an electric rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner,” and the woman’s spouse, dressed in camouflage, took the stage to hand Keith a red, white and blue guitar. As you can see in the video, his shocked wife did a double-take before embracing him for a series of ecstatic kisses.
“She didn’t know he was coming in tonight,” Keith said. “My beautiful crew told me before the show tonight that the girl sitting over here … her husband’s coming home tonight and she has no idea. So I want to pick her out. Welcome home, Major Cruz. Thank you for your service. Godspeed.”
The reunited couple stayed onstage to help the Clinton native belt his smash “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American),” while several other concert-goers joined them on the stage.
At the end of the song, Keith told the crowd, “Hey people, never apologize for being patriotic.”
Keith, who grew up in Moore, will release his new album “Hope on the Rocks” on Oct. 30.
