Oklahoma City-based psychedelic rockers The Flaming Lips will appear and perform tonight on “The Colbert Report” as part of this week’s “Pepsi Presents StePhest Colbchella ’012: Rocktaugustfest.”
“The Colbert Report” airs at 10:30 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays on Comedy Central.
Throughout this week, Colbert has been airing performances and interviews with the various artists on his special music festival. Besides the Lips, acts on the bill include fun., Grandmaster Flash, Grizzly Bear and Santigold.
The event was taped Aug. 10 at New York City’s Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, and Colbert and Lips frontman Wayne Coyne reportedly are taking full advantage of the unusual setting.
According to EW.com, tonight’s segment will feature Colbert interviewing Coyne while they lie on their backs inside a space capsule at the museum, an appropriate spacy setting for the often otherwordly musician. EW.com even has exclusive photos.
The band’s performance of their new song “Ashes in the Air” also will air on tonight’s “Colbert Report.” Two more Lips performances – of “Drug Chart” and their official Oklahoma State Rock Song “Do You Realize?!?” – will be available at colbertnation.com on Friday.
