Video: Sara Evans sings the National Anthem before Game 2 of the NBA Finals in Oklahoma City
Country music star Sara Evans sang the National Anthem before Game 2 of the NBA Finals pitting the Oklahoma City Thunder against the Miami Heat at Oklahoma City’s Chesapeake Energy Arena.
While Evans absolutely belted “The Star-Spangled Banner,” hitting all the high notes with authority, she also changed the cadence of the song by holding some notes and cutting others short. I prefer the more traditional version of the “Banner” that “American Idol” runner-up Jessica Sanchez performed Tuesday.
With the Heat’s win last night, the series is tied 1-1 as it moves to Miami, and I’m still hoping that an Oklahoma star will get the chance to sing the “Banner” before at least one of the NBA Finals games.
Last week, my excellent colleague Carla Hinton and I talked to some of the Oklahoma singers who have performed the anthem before Thunder games so far in this year’s magical post-season run. To read their thoughts, click here.
Earlier this week, NewsOK video personality Jennifer Matthews took to the streets of Bricktown to find out which Oklahoma stars Thunder fans would like to see perform the anthem during the series, and they have another country music star in mind:
