13 Days of Oklahoma Music: David Cook greets “This Loud Morning”
We’re in the final days of 2011, and that means I’m winding down my “13 Days of Oklahoma Music,” a video series looking back at musical milestones reached by recording artists with state ties in the year almost past.
“American Idol” Season 7 winner David Cook, who has Tulsa ties, released his second post-”Idol” album, “This Loud Morning,” in June on 19 Recordings/RCA Records. He returned to Tulsa when he brought his tour in support of the new record to Cain’s Ballroom in October.
“This Loud Morning” marked Cook’s first new album since November 2008, when he released his self-titled major-label debut six months after winning on “Idol.” “David Cook” went platinum.
Executive produced by Matt Serletic (Rob Thomas, Matchbox Twenty, Collective Soul), “This Loud Morning” features tracks written and co-written by Cook along with many acclaimed songwriters including, Tulsa native Ryan Tedder, David Hodges, Johnny Rzeznik, Kevin Griffin and Marti Frederiksen.
Earlier this month, Cook talked about his second album, touring and his onstage persona in an interview with ABC’s “What’s the Buzz”:

Brandy, thank you for including this amazing artist in your countdown. Love all of the songs on This Loud Morning. Fade into Me is the perfect video. The interview, as always, shows how down to earth this young man is. He has a heart of gold and a voice of perfection.
Happy New Year!
This Loud Morning is one of the best albums I’ve heard in years. The songs are structurally complex, emotionally rich and beautifully sung. What’s even better is to see him perform them live , a truly unforgettable experience. Hopefully David and the band will be back to San Francisco in 2012.
last night I listened to This Loud Morning Deluxe Edition after weeks without listen to it on a long way trip back home. To my delight, I was again in total awe with David Cook’s powerful vocals, great melodies, and meaningful lyrics. Those are the things I really miss the most in today’s music. Maybe that’s why I keep coming back to his music again and again, to satisfy my thirst for real music with no fillers, no auto-tuning, no crappy lyrics. Definitely, I am a lifer!
The thing about Cook is, he’s the real deal. More talent in his little pinkie than most of the so-called singers that drone endlessly on the crap that passes for pop-rock radio now.
Thanks for the attention to This Loud Morning! Selling “albums” is tough now, but I’m glad that David Cook still thinks like this – like an artist working on a concept, not just someone trying to make a buck with another really bad but catchy pop song. Please hang in there Mr. Cook! There are folks out here who realy need your voice, your lyrics, your music!
I agree that this is my favorite album in years. The last one I enjoyed as much as This Loud Morning was David Cook, but Mr. Cook outdid himself on the sophomore album. He is a genuine “good” guy and deserves the best. Thank you fir including him in your list.
I know David Cook’s “This Loud Morning” album is the second album that I have really enjoyed in the last 5 years. The other album was David Cook (2008). There are few artist that have the voice and vulnerability to really sing with the emotion tha David does.(His live performances are awesome) Thank you for the great Blog.
I LOVE FADE INTO ME. I’VE SEEN HIM TWICE IN SAN DIEGO. I HOPE HE RETURNS. I WANT TO KISS AND MEET HIM WITH A PHOTO.

Of the 5-6 albums I bought this year, this is the only one I still play start to finish.
