Photo and video: Vince Gill, Jimmy Webb, Brad Paisley and Keith Urban pay tribute to Glen Campbell at 2011 CMA Awards
One of the most affecting moments of the 45th Annual CMA Awards was the heartfelt tribute to country legend Glen Campbell, who revealed earlier this year he has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.
Oklahoma City-grown Country Music Hall of Famer Vince Gill and fellow singer/guitarists Keith Urban and Brad Paisley took turns crooning and playing three of Campbell’s massive late ’60s hits: “By the Time I Get to Phoenix,” “Wichita Lineman” and “Galveston.”
All three songs were penned by Elk City native and Songwriters Hall of Famer Jimmy Webb, who played piano during the tribute and gave Campbell a big hug at the the end of it. Campbell didn’t speak during the tribute but was shown several times mouthing the words to his hits and then took the stage at the end.
It was a touching and tuneful moment of the Country Music Association’s annual awards event, which took place Wednesday in Nashville, Tenn.

Hopefully we will continue to have attention focused on this terrible disease. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Campbell family. Let’s find a cure for this disease so we never have to lose anyone in this manner!!!
this tribute to glen campbell was one of the best things to see during the award show keith and brad did excellent job on those songs i liked glen campbells reaction to them to doing his songs it was great seeing the audience clap and stand up for one of the all time talented performers
It was a nice tribute but uncomfortably awkward at the end. Could the producers of the show at least given Glen a chance to speak or play the guitar? Instead of this being “all about Glen” it was all about getting to commercial break. That was tacky and embarrassing. Shame on the ABC and CMA Show producers.
