Video: Wanda Jackson and Imelda May sing “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On” in New York’s Central Park

Oklahoma’s own Queen of Rockabilly Wanda Jackson performed for a crowd of thousand’s Wednesday night in New York’s Central Park.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t there, but this had to be a highlight of the night: Irish singer Imelda May joined the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer for a fun rendition of the Jerry Lee Lewis classic “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On” that led into Jackson’s own signature hit “Let’s Have a Party.”

If this doesn’t get your blood pumping, I regret to inform you that you passed on sometime during the day and your body just doesn’t know it yet!

This one was previously known to me, Irish singer Imelda May. Her first album Love Tattoo went to number one in Ireland and was well received in the UK. She has heaps of admirers in the music industry and has been championed by people like Jools Holland and Jeff Beck and has even played shows with one of her heroes and great influences Wanda Jackson. Her music is a wonderful mix of Rockabilly, blues and surf guitars. Craig Ferguson introduced her saying the track was from her new album Mayhem, but I know it was released in the UK and Ireland last year. Maybe it is only just being released in America. The title track is a a great Rockabilly mover and would have to be a dance floor filler. If you can keep still while listening to this there would have to be something wrong with you. So what do ya think? Any good? I know Imelda has played shows in Australia, but she did not make it across the Nullabor, otherwise I would have been front and centre at one of them, maybe next time. Imelda has appeared on Later with Jools Holland, in a show that aired in Australia back in May, where she performed a cover of Tainted Love as well as Mayhem. That song is also on the album. We reviewed that installment of Later on our sister site Oz TV Reviews if you care to take a look. Imelda May's albums are well worth checking out.
