The Oklahoma Film & Music Office and Sweethearts LLC have announced that principal photography on the family film “Cowgirls N’ Angels” began over the weekend.

Written by Timothy Armstrong and Stephan Blinn and directed by Timothy Armstrong, the coming-of-age feature will shoot in the Oklahoma communities of Stillwater, Guthrie, Oklahoma City, and Pawnee.

“We are happy to be filming this tender movie in Oklahoma with the support of a great crew, actors and the various communities who have welcomed us with open arms,” says director Timothy Armstrong in a news release.

“Cowgirls N’ Angels” is billed as a heartwarming movie that tells the story of Ida, a feisty and rebellious young girl, who has dreams of finding her father, a rodeo rider. While searching for her dad, she connects with the Sweethearts of the Rodeo, a team of young female rodeo riders run by former rodeo star Terence Parker. Recognizing Ida’s innate talent for trick riding, Terence recruits her for their ranks. Accepted wholeheartedly by her new “family,” Ida finds a new passion that redefines her life, and may also help her find the father she’s been searching for.

Jill Simpson, director of OF&MO, says in the release, “’Cowgirls N’ Angels’ is wonderful story, and we are excited that it will be filmed using Oklahoma as the backdrop. This high caliber project as well as several others slated to go into production in the near future provide Oklahoma crew with an increasing number of opportunities for employment and to expand their skill sets. Our current incentives make Oklahoma very competitive in the marketplace positioning the State to reap the benefits of a growing new industry here.”

Bailee Madison (“Just Go With It,” “Bridge to Terabithia”) leads the strong cast along with James Cromwell (“Babe,” “L.A. Confidential”), Alicia Witt (“Friday Night Lights,” “88 Minutes”), Frankie Faison (“The Silence of the Lambs,” “Meet the Browns”), Madison Burge (“Friday Night Lights,” “Seven Days In Utopia”), Leslie-Anne Huff (“MacKenzie Falls,” “Strawberry Cliff”), and Kathleen Rose Perkins (“The Island”).

Along with the help of OF&MO and Oklahoma State University, “Cowgirls N’ Angels” is being produced by Ben Feingold through Sweethearts LLC, and Sense and Sensibility Ventures LLC, with the team led by Shawn Griffith.

The production is utilizing the 35 percent Oklahoma Film Enhancement Rebate, administered by OF&MO. It also is eligible to receive the additional 2 percent offered by the state by including music in the film either created by Oklahomans and/or recording music for the film in Oklahoma, according to the release.

The Oklahoma Film & Music Office, a division of the Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department, works to attract film, television, video, and music industries to Oklahoma through an effort to promote and expand these values and interests within the state.

my two girls were asked to be extras during the 89ers day parade scean, they were/are so excited to be a part of this oklahoma movie experience. Bailee Madison is a professional and the girls took to light of her, said she is nice and easy going. i wander how things would change if she knew that two of the girls in her movie was homeless? not that igt should be of her concern, but it is true, my husband lost his job over christmas, he has a 4 yr collage degree in buisness and comunications, and there are no jobs hiring, we have gone through our sa:vings and have nothing left. we have been homeless since the beginning of march, living in a tent, trying to finnish school. i wish someone could take notice of my children, see that they are beautiful, and talented. how is it that some children have all they can ever want in life and others cant even live in the same home as thier mother. i think we are lucky to live in a land so great, but how is it that we have so many poor people who dont even have a place to live. i know that if given a chance, my 3 daughters and my 1son could make something of thier lives in the movie industry, they are all beautiful and smart, and talented in thier own way, someone tell me how gto get children involved in a movie career when the family has no money for classes or for head shots? why is it that only the rich get richer and the poor well they only get poorer and watch in humiliation. please help me give my children a better life for not only themselves, but for others as well. i have wonderful children they just will never be good enough to anyone to prove themselves worthy. i just wish i knew how some children are better than all others. i want my children to have a home to live in and a career they will not ever have to worry about losing, or going under (like my husbands job did on christmas day) please lets get together and help talented children with no money so they to can make a name for themselves.
