Jennifer Lawrence talked to Parade Magazine about her Oscar nomination for “Winter’s Bone” and her upcoming role as Mystique in “X-Men: First Class.”
Lawrence, 20, earned her Oscar nomination with a powerful, career-transforming lead turn in the indie thriller “Winter’s Bone.” She plays a teen scouring the criminal underbelly of Missouri’s Ozark Mountains for her meth-making father, who has endangered the family’s home by using it for bond and then vanishing.
“My friends and family met at my parents’ house to watch [the Oscar nominations]. I was completely the pessimistic one. I was just sitting on the couch thinking how humiliating it would be if everybody came and were holding bottles of champagne and then they didn’t call my name. [When they called my name] I fell to the floor, it was amazing,” she told Parade.
She also talked with Parade about her experience getting nude and blue for the reboot “X-Men: First Class.” She plays the mutant Mystique, the role originated on film by Rebecca Romijn.
“I think I psyched myself out about [wearing only body paint for X-Men]. But then on the actual day, the only thing you’re worried about is sitting on things and not rubbing your scales off. It mostly becomes a maintenance problem and the last thing you think about is, ‘Oh right, I’m virtually naked,’” she told Parade.
“I wanted to look like a woman so I knew I wanted to maintain my curves. I’m so sick of seeing these skinny little women and thinking I’m supposed to look like that and thinking young girls think they should also look like that,” she added, talking about her fitness strategy for the film.
