New releases for Jan. 25, 2011: Wanda Jackson’s “Party Ain’t Over,” Miranda Lambert featured on Grammy CD

Wanda Jackson
Oklahoma’s own Queen of Rockabilly Wanda Jackson releases today her hotly anticipated new album “The Party Ain’t Over,” produced by rocker Jack White of The White Stripes. The album comes out on Nonesuch Records and White’s Third Man Records.
The 73-year-old Jackson, who was born in Maud and has long made her home in Oklahoma City, was one of the first women to sing rock ‘n’ roll. The new album features the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer performing an array of covers from Amy Winehouse and Bob Dylan to Kitty Wells and Jimmie Rodgers.
Jackson, White and his Third Man House Band performed a rollicking cover of Johnny Kidd and the Pirates’ “Shakin’ All Over” from the album Thursday night on “The Late Show with David Letterman.” They will perform again tonight on “Conan”; Conan O’Brien’s late-night show starts at 10 p.m. on TBS.
Also, Jackson will perform a free album release show at 8 p.m. Friday at the Academy of Contemporary Music at the University of Central Oklahoma’s Performance Lab, 323 E Sheridan in Bricktown. Doors will open at 7 p.m.
Green Corn Revival, the Weatherford band whose debut album “Say Your a Sinner” made my list of top albums of 2010, will open for and back Jackson during Friday’s ACM@UCO show.
The buzz surrounding the album has put Jackson back in the national and international spotlight. To read more about Jackson and her new album, click here to read The Oklahoman Entertainment Editor Gene Triplett’s excellent interview with her.
Country Music Hall of Famer and fellow Oklahoma native Vince Gill said he was pleased to share the bill with Jackson during a recent Grand Ole Opry show in Nashville.
“The rockabilly queen, man, she’s awesome,” Gill said of Jackson during a recent phone interview with me.

Miranda Lambert
Jackson isn’t Oklahoma’s only fiery female singer in the spotlight these days. The annual Grammy nominees CD also comes out today, and Tishomingo resident Miranda Lambert’s “The House That Built Me” is included on the compilation.
The Recording Academy’s Grammy Recordings has partnered with Jive Records to release this year’s compilation, the 17th edition of the best-selling series, which highlights artists and songs nominated for the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards.
A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the album will benefit the MusiCares Foundation and the Grammy Foundation — two charitable organizations established by The Recording Academy.
“The House That Built Me” is nominated for three Grammys, for Lambert for best female country vocal performance and for songwriters Tom Douglas and Allen Shamblin in the best country song and the multi-genre song of the year categories. In addition, Lambert is nominated for country album of the year for “Revolution” and country collaboration with vocals for the bluegrassy “Bad Angel,” her joint effort with Dierks Bentley and Jamey Johnson.
The album also includes tracks from Grammy nominees Lady Gaga, Lady Antebellum, Cee Lo Green, Eminem, Katy Perry, Arcade Fire, the “Glee” cast and the late Michael Jackson.
Lambert will be among the performers for the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards, airing live at 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 13 fon the CBS Television Network.
