Oklahoma City psychedelic rockers The Flaming Lips announced today that they will play their acclaimed 1999 album “The Soft Bulletin” in their hometown on New Year’s Eve.

“Just so you guys know, we are going to perform The Soft Bulletin on New Years Eve in OKC! Tickets will go on sale very soon,” was the message earlier today on the band’s official Twitter feed (@theflaminglips).

For the past three years, the Lips have staged their New Year’s Eve Freakout at Oklahoma City’s Cox Convention Center. Along with a full set – complete with gigantic balloons, tons of confetti and a countdown to midnight – the 2009 concert featured the Lips and Stardeath and White Dwarfs playing the Pink Floyd Album “Dark Side of the Moon” in its entirety.

The Lips also are celebrating Halloween in their hometown, though they are doing it a bit early. The band is working on its March of 1,000 Flaming Skeletons, part of the fourth annual “Ghouls Gone Wild” Halloween parade, set to begin at 7 p.m. Saturday downtown.
