Box Office Report for August 27-29

As with most horror films, The Last Exorcism topped the box office in its opening weekend. However, it was given a close run for its money by the new heist film Takers. The only other “new” film this weekend was the special edition of Avatar, which despite a large promotional push landed outside of the top ten.
In the holdover movies, the Will Ferrell comedy The Other Guys is about to cross $100 million. Also, I may have announced Inception’s imminent exit from the top ten too soon when it hit number nine last week. This week saw it bounce back up to the number seven spot; its haul is now over $270 million.
According to the IMDB, the top ten movies for this weekend:
1.) The Last Exorcism $21.3 million (New)
2.) Takers $21 million (New)

3.) The Expendables $9.5 million ($82 million)
4.) Eat Pray Love $7 million ($60.7 million)
5.) The Other Guys $6.6 million ($99.3million)

6.) Vampires Suck $5.3 million ($27.9 million)
7.) Inception $5.11 million ($271 million)
8.) Nanny McPhee Returns $4.74 million ($17 million)
9.) The Switch $4.66 million ($16.5 million)

10.) Pirahna 3D $4.31 million ($18.3 million)
