David Slade talks “Twilight: Eclipse”

Director David Slade is seen on the set of "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse."
My excellent colleague George Lang recently traveled to Los Angeles to interview members of the cast and crew of the anticipated sequel “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.”
Director David Slade took his experience from helming previous vampire flick “30 Days of Night” and applied it toward giving non-”Twihard” fans a reason to see the movie beyond the love triangle.
“I guess, like, if you’re not into the World Cup, and there’s nothing worth seeing on TV and you’ve not got any plans, we’ve got, like, I think six or seven decapitations,” Slade said.
“But no, being serious, I think it’s the most mature book, and I think we made the most mature film,” Slade said during a press conference at the Four Seasons Hotel in Los Angeles. “Certainly, there’s a great deal of romance in the film, but there’s also other things. Vengeance is a very big theme in the film. Our action sequences are built out of character, so they’re not just events — they’re built out of a need to get to a place. And I think it’s a film for everyone.”
Slade is the third director in as many films to take on Bella’s saga — Catherine Hardwicke and Chris Weitz handled “Twilight” and “The Twilight Saga: New Moon,” respectively. Slade is the first director on the series to have previously made a vampire film.
Because Slade had a background in extremely bloody vampire combat imagery, producer Wyck Godfrey said the Englishman was the perfect director to orchestrate the battle between Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) and his coven and the army of bloodthirsty “newborn” vampires created by villainous Victoria (Bryce Dallas Howard).
