Tonight’s CMT Music Awards to feature Oklahoma performers, nominees
Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert, Toby Keith, Reba McEntire, Brooks & Dunn, Blake Shelton and Rascal Flatts will represent Oklahoma when the CMT Music Awards air live tonight from Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn.
The fan-voted awards show will broadcast at 7 tonight on Country Music Television and CMT.com. Detroit-based rocker/rapper Kid Rock, a 2009 CMT Music Award winner, will host the show.
The final nominees for the top award, video of the year, will be announced at the beginning of tonight’s awards show, and fans will be able to cast their ballots online at www.CMT.com and via text message throughout the live broadcast.
Underwood, Taylor Swift, Jason Aldean and Lady Antebellum go into tonight’s ceremony with a leading three nominations each.
A Checotah native, Underwood is nominated for her sassy hit “Cowboy Casanova” in the video of the year and female video of the year categories. Her “CMT Invitation Only” rendition of her tearjerker “Temporary Home” will compete for CMT performance of the year.
Lambert, who lives in Tishomingo, also garnered a video of the year nomination for the mini-movie to her feisty first No. 1 song, “White Liar.” “White Liar” is up for female video, too.
Norman resident Keith earned video and male video of the year nominations for his rowdy chart-topper “American Ride.”
McEntire, who grew up in Chockie, received nods for her heartbroken ballad “Consider Me Gone,” nominated for female video of the year and performance of the year from “Invitation Only.”
Brooks & Dunn, which includes former Tulsan Ronnie Dunn, is nominated in the duo video of the year category for the ballad “Indian Summer.” Since Dunn and Kix Brooks plan to split up after their summer “The Last Rodeo Tour,” this will be their last CMT Music Awards nomination as a duo.
Ada native and Tishomingo resident Shelton shares a nomination with buddy Trace Adkins for collaborative video of the year for their raucous chart-topping duet “Hillbilly Bone.”
Rascal Flatts, which includes Joe Don Rooney of Picher, is nominated in the group video of the year category for the mournful ballad “Here Comes Goodbye.”
Oklahomans also will be well represented among the night’s performers, with Underwood, Keith and Lambert set to play the show. Other performers include Kid Rock, Lady Antebellum, Tim McGraw, Brad Paisley, Zac Brown Band, Jamey Johnson, LeAnn Rimes, Keith Urban and John Mayer, Laura Bell Bundy, Easton Corbin, Justin Moore, Steel Magnolia, Trailer Choir and Chris Young.
Presenters include Owasso country singer and cookbook author Trisha Yearwood, celebrity chef Paula Deen, “American Idol” judge Kara DioGuardi, pro football player Terrell Owens, “Heroes” actress Hayden Panettiere, NASCAR legend Richard Petty, “Saturday Night Live” player Kenan Thompson, “Dancing With the Stars” partners Erin Andrews and Maks Chmerkovskiy, rocker Sheryl Crow, actress Jada Pinkett-Smith, comedian David Spade and MTV’s “Jersey Shore” stars Snooki and The Situation. Among the country stars who will serve as presenters are Shelton, Swift, Bundy, Gloriana, Faith Hill, Martina McBride, Kellie Pickler and Zac Brown Band.
