New releases for June 8, 2010: Hanson, Samantha Crain, Kyle Dillingham

Hanson

For Oklahoma music fans, it’s a red-letter day with three different releases from notable state musical talents.

Tulsa band of brothers Hanson release their anticipated “Shout It Out,” which features the buzzworthy first single “Thinking ‘Bout Somethin’,” currently at No. 14 on iTunes. The trio will perform songs from “Shout It Out” tonight on “Lopez Tonight.” George Lopez’s talk show airs at 10 p.m. on TBS.

Shawnee-born and bred singer-songwriter Samantha Crain sends her sophomore LP, “You (Understood),” out into the world today. Crain recently played a pair of CD release shows here in her home state. To read my interview with her, click here. To read my review of “You (Understood),” click here.

Oklahoma fiddler and musical ambassador Kyle Dillingham has collaborated with language educator Dennis Dunham to release “Il Fait Beau.” The first release in their “Language and Lyrics” series, the 10-CD set combines music and language instruction. Recorded in Oklahoma City and La Rochelle, France, the 10-CD set follows native French speakers throughout a thrilling and romantic story set to music. “Il Fait Beau” features original music written and performed by Dillingham, who is fluent in French.

To celebrate the release of “Il Fait Beau,” Dillingham and Dunham will host a CD release party on tonight at Oklahoma City’s Farmer’s Market, 311 S Klein. The event will begin with a 6 p.m. reception, followed by a 7 p.m. concert featuring music from the CD. In addition to the great music, the event will host two delegates from the French Consulate. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, go to www.languageandlyrics.com.
