Miranda Lambert snags a big Oklahoma paddlefish

Country music star Miranda Lambert snagged a large paddlefish last week while on a fishing trip at Hudson Lake in northeastern Oklahoma. Her boyfriend and fellow country star Blake Shelton, pictured behind her, caught a 40-pound paddlefish that set a lake record on the same trip. Below: Shelton shows off his record fish.

Last week, The Oklahoman’s Outdoor Guru Ed Godfrey reported that Tishomingo resident and country music star Blake Shelton caught a 40-pound paddlefish that is the new lake record for Hudson Lake in northeastern Oklahoma.

His girlfriend and fellow country star Miranda Lambert, a Texas native who now lives in Tishomingo, joined Shelton and members of his band on the expedition.

Now, Ed reports that Lambert snagged her own impressive paddlefish, which are also called spoonbills and the Oklahoma Marlin in the Sooner state, on last week’s fishing trip. The picture above shows the diminutive blonde holding an armful of fish almost as big as she.

Shelton and Lambert’s paddlefish adventure likely will be shown on a future episode of “Outdoor Oklahoma,” Ed reported last week.

Lambert and Shelton followed up their big catches on Hudson Lake with big awards at Sunday’s Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas. Lambert landed three trophies – top female vocalist, album of the year and video of the year. Shelton snared his first-ever ACM, for vocal event of the year for “Hillbilly Bone,” with help from his duet partner Trace Adkins.

In addition, Lambert is bringing her first headlining tour May 1 to Stillwater’s Tumbleweed Dance Hall. I recently talked ACMs, fishing and the tour with Lambert; look for my interview with the country star next week.
