Peter Sarsgaard (“Orphan,” “Garden State,” “An Education”) is in negotiations to play the villain in “Green Lantern,” the Warner Bros.’ film based on the legendary DC Comics superhero, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Ryan Reynolds is starring as the film’s hero, Hal Jordan, a test pilot who finds a downed spacecraft with a dying alien who passes him a powerful ring. The ring introduces Jordan to the interstellar police force known as the Green Lanterns.
Sarsgaard would play Dr. Hector Hammond, the pathologist son of a senator. His powerful father sees the doctor as a disappointment. Hammond becomes infused with psychic powers when he discovers a meteor.
Blake Lively has been cast as Reynolds’ love interest, Carol Ferris.
The movie is prepping for a March start in New Orleans. Martin Campbell (2006′s “Casino Royale”) will direct.
