My colleague George Lang covered the big U2 concert Sunday night at Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium at the University of Oklahoma. The stadium was completely transformed by the huge stage constructed for latest stop of the legendary rock band’s “U2 360″ tour.
George praised the Irish band for its long set, which included old favorites from the group’s deep catalog and new tracks from most recent album “No Line on the Horizon.”
He reports: “U2 kept the crowd of 60,000 fans happy to the point of mass, ecstatic dancing when the group deployed its acknowledged classics such as ‘Beautiful Day’ and ‘I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For.’”
He said the band added two songs it had not played in previous shows on the tour, 2000′s “In a Little While” and the new “Unknown Caller.”
George noted that opening act the Black Eyed Peas contributed an energetic set with hits such as “Boom Boom Pow” and “I Gotta Feeling” but their set really served as a “slick, Auto-Tuned pep rally for U2.”
