The seminal television series “The Twilight Zone” is celebrating its 50th anniversary.

Rod Serling’s series, which used allegory and science fiction to explore societal issues and taboo subjects, lasted just five seasons. But those five seasons spawned a thousand or more imitators, as well as a 1983 movie from Steven Spielberg and John Landis.

It’s inspired music from the Grateful Dead, Rush, Golden Earring and Michael Jackson and become a vital part of the cultural lexicon.

The appeal of “The Twilight Zone” spans generations: If either my husband or older son catch an episode on TV, they must watch it through to the end, even if it’s one they’ve seen dozens of times.

The Associated Press has submitted for your approval an in-depth feature on “The Twilight Zone” and it’s legacy. Click here to check it out.

And I leave you with these famed words from Rod Serling:

“There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man’s fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call ‘The Twilight Zone.’”

Doo-doo doo-doo.
