“Whip It” getting sneak peek Saturday in theaters

“Due to the overwhelming popularity and playability” of ”Whip It!”  at the recent Toronto Film Festival, Fox Searchlight will be offering special sneak preview screenings of the roller derby movie in more than 500 theaters nationwide Saturday evening.

According to a news release, free T-shirts will be given away at every screening location.

MovieTickets.com is currently offering tickets for 7 p.m. Saturday screenings at the Harkins Bricktown Cinema 16 and Moore Warren Theatre in the Oklahoma City area.

Fox Searchlight’s official site for the event (www.foxsearchlight.com/whipit/sneaks/) also indicates that a sneak preview screening will take place Saturday at the AMC Quail Springs 24, though I couldn’t find tickets for that showing for sale online.

The directorial debut of Drew Barrymore, “Whip It” stars Ellen Page (“Juno”) as Bliss, a rebellious Texas teen who throws in her small-town beauty pageant crown in favor of skates and a place in the rowdy world of roller derby. The film also stars Barrymore, Marcia Gay Harden, Kristen Wiig, Daniel Stern and Jimmy Fallon.

“Whip It” officially opens in theaters Oct. 2.

I’ve been looking forward to this movie since I heard Barrymore talk about it back in February during interviews for “He’s Just Not That Into You.” The casting seems spot-on, and with all her producing and acting experience, it will be interesting to see what Barrymore the director accomplishes in her first feature film effort.
