Jack White of the White Stripes and his side project the Raconteurs made the list when the final nominees for the 2009 CMA Awards were announced this morning.
The Grammy-nominated rock band are nominated along with bluegrass legend Ricky Skaggs and country singer-songwriter Ashley Monroe for musical event of the year for their song “Old Enough.” The song appears on the Raconteurs’ 2008 album “Consolers of the Lonely.”
If the Raconteurs and their collaborators win the prize, it will be the second straight year that a rock-and-bluegrass combo has taken home the award. Robert Plant and Alison Krauss’ won musical event last year for “Gone, Gone, Gone (Done Moved On)” from their album “Raising Sand.”
White is no stranger to country music: He produced Loretta Lynn’s 2004 album “Van Lear Rose,” which won the Grammy for best country album in 2005. He and Lynn also won the Grammy that year for best country collaboration with vocals for their duet “Portland, Oregon.”
The CMA Awards will air live Nov. 11 from the Sommet Center in Nashville, Tenn., on ABC. Oklahoma native Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley, who received a leading six nominations, will co-host the show for the second year.
