Some “New Moon” advance tickets already on sale

“Twilight” fans can already buy tickets for some of the earliest screenings of the wildly anticipated sequel “The Twilight Saga: New Moon,” more than two months before its Nov. 20 opening date.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Carmike Cinemas is offering tickets to midnight Nov. 19 performances of “New Moon” at select theaters through Fandango.com. The Columbus, Ga.-based theater chain – which operates 247 theaters in small and midsize markets nationwide – will offer “New Moon” tickets at 63 theaters listed on the online ticketer’s Web site.
A Fandango spokesman told The Hollywood Reporter it was too early to track ticket sales from the extra-early advance offering.
The move to offer “New Moon” tickets unusually early comes after AMC Entertainment opted to make available tickets to midnight performances of Jim Cameron’s long-awaited sci-fi film ”Avatar” four months before its Dec. 18 opening.
Generally, advanced ticket sales begin no earlier than about six weeks before a film’s opening, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Fandango.com and MovieTickets.com told the trade publication that there has been substantial interest in “Avatar” tickets.
“New Moon” topped Fandango’s latest weekly survey of most-anticipated movies. According to The Hollywood Reporter, 39 percent of Fandango visitors said they were most looking forward to seeing “New Moon,” 23 percent mentioned “Avatar,” and 16 percent voted for Roland Emmerich’s latest disaster flick, ”2012.”
“New Moon” will be the featured film in The Oklahoman Weekend Look/BAM’s Blog fall 2009 movie preview, which runs Friday.
