Brad Paisley, Charley Pride and Alison Krauss will perform tonight in the historic East Room as part of the White House music series.
The performances will be livestreamed at www.whitehouse.gov/live. President Barack Obama is scheduled to give the opening remarks at 6:25 p.m. Oklahoma time.
The White House Music Series is hosted by First Lady Michelle Obama and its goal is to celebrate the arts and the importance of arts education. The series launched last month with a focus on jazz and will continue in the fall with classical music.
The first lady, White House staff and members of Congress will be in attendance at tonight’s event.
Along with the performances, the country music stars have been participating today in music education workshops. Check out more Associated Press photos of their activities today after the break.
It’s a shame that the show doesn’t include any Oklahoma stars, considering our state’s rich country music heritage. But the country installment of the series includes three great stars: Pride is a Country Music Hall of Famer and great role model for minorities who want to break into country music. Paisley is a three-time GrammyAward winner and currently has the No. 1 album in the nation with his new release, “American Saturday Night.” The Queen of Bluegrass (and a successful crossover artist with former Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant), Krauss has won 26 Grammy Awards, making her the most awarded female artist (and the third most awarded artist overall) in Grammy history.

Rhonda, why can’t you see past the hate and into the event and what it means? I think this was a wonderful event and appreciate the thought behind it. The artists chosen were a great representation of this beautiful country. The election is over, deal with it… stop spouting negativity. We ALL have to remain positive and united regardless of our personal beliefs. Otherwise, what kind of legacy are we leaving for our children? More negativity, devisiveness and hate. (And when you quote or paraphrase someone, at least try to get it right and in the proper context).
Melanie, witch has never been proud of her country is now hosting americana/arts events. Reality check. We won’t have a country left to leave the kids with these commies in the WH. I’ll bet the Obama’s are “huge” bluegrass fans. Just frauds, just fakes, thats all they are!
I’m one of the whitest, most patriotic persons in the USA… But there have been times in the country where shame has been dealt out like candy.
I understand what Michelle Obama meant. There are times we as a country could and should have done better for its people. Stop seeing everything through just your eyes. Try and stand in someone else’s shoes once in a while, instead of trying to stand ON THEM. God Bless the USA; Always strive to make us better.
Rhonda, I feel sorry and will pray for you. You obviously have some serious issues which need to be dealt with. Try talking to you minister. I pray that will help you because you sound like an a crazy extremist.
One last thing, Rhonda. While they may not be “huge” bluegrass fans, as you stated, that doesn’t mean that they can’t appreciate the art, the artist and the meaning. There are a lot of things I don’t care for, but that doesn’t mean that I can’t appreciate them for what they are. And last I heard, God is the only one that can pass judgements, not you.
Rhonda,
I feel sad for people like you that live to hate. You need to move on beyond the “Proud American” remarks. We need to rebuild this country after 8 years of damage to the American Dream.
Years ago I saw a show of Charley Pride for the first time in Montreal,Qc.I was charmed by his voice and his personality.Wish he could come again to Montreal,QC,Canada
Any possibility?

I get so tired of people referring to someone else’s disagreement with this administration as “hate.” I mean let’s be serious, you people never spewed any “hate” towards Bush, huh? I for one HATE the policies of President Obama. I respect the office of the Presidency, but that doesn’t mean I have to respect his policies. It is a fact that his policies resemble very closely that of a Marxist. “Spreading the wealth around” came directly out of his mouth. He intends to take from those who have earned it and give to those who have not. That is evil, in my opinion.
Not once during the W’s years as President did I hear anyone say they hated him.
Dislike greatly what he was doing and represented? You bet.
Ashamed (or embarassed, I’m not sure which) that he was from the same state as them? Oh, yeah. But hate? No.
And that whole protesting “spreading the wealth around” complaint is so bogus since the last President did it but he took it from the middle and lower classes and gave it to the upper brackets. Unless you’re wealthy–which, if you are, no one’s having any sympathy for you–complaining about this new President’s idea of spreading wealth around is a sound idea for the whole country. It makes us all stronger.
Marxist. Oh, brother. Whatever.

This event celebrating American art and music being hosted by a woman who has never been proud of America. I’ll bet the Obama’s are big fans of country and bluegrass! Sad to see AKUS involved in this.
