Paul McCartney will make his first visit to “The Late Show with David Letterman” Wednesday on CBS.

As part of The Beatles, McCartney made his U.S. television debut at the Ed Sullivan Theater on “The Ed Sullivan Show” 45 years ago. The legendary singer/songwriter/musician will return to that very stage to sit down for an interview with Letterman.

McCartney will also perform later in the broadcast, according to a news release.

Besides his groundbreaking work with The Beatles, the multiple Grammy Award-winning artist has also been hailed for his work with his band, Wings, as well as for his solo projects. He most recently released the album “Electric Arguments,” a collaboration with producer Youth under the moniker The Fireman.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer will begin a tour of U.S. stadiums beginning July 17 at CitiField in New York City, and then heading to Washington, D.C., Boston, Atlanta and winding up Aug. 19 Dallas.

The sole arena show on McCartney’s U.S. tour will be his Aug. 17 concert at Tulsa’s BOK Center. The concert will celebrate the one-year anniversary of the venue.

Tickets for McCartney’s Tulsa show go on sale at 10 a.m. Monday. For more information, go to www.bokcenter.com.

[...] McCartney rocks the big apple This was a re-run of a Letterman show from a year ago, shown here on M…of a Letterman show from a year ago, shown here on Monday. The interview was interesting, if at times a little awkward. It started with Dave Letterman asking why this was the first time they could get Paul on the show, after trying to book him for 25 years. Paul said he didn't like the show. This was probably a set up gag. But it started to feel a little true after Paul asked Dave a couple of questions and Letterman just ignored them and moved on with the next question he had prepared. McCartney also had a gentle dig at Letterman for not reading his cue cards properly, when there was a hiccup in the running order. [caption id="attachment_169" align="aligncenter" width="468" caption="Paul McCartney interview with dave Letterman July 2009 "][/caption] I'm not sure if Letterman's stumbles were due to just not having a ready witty retort, or being a little star struck. Which may sound rediculous, as he meets famous people every single night. But Paul McCartney is different, he is a major part of their youth for people of Letterman's age. Paul has always struck me as the supreme handler of the media, especially television. Which is hardly surprising considering he was there in it's infancy and was very much part of it's growth and development. I remember him being interviewed on TV in the UK back in the 80's by a very experienced presenter and news reader Sue Lawley. She was a very cool lady, sort of like a Sandra Sully on TV today. But she fluttered like a school girl when interviewing McCartney and he just sat there being cool charming and witty. It was the first time I had noticed that famous people can be daunted by other famous people. [...]
