Paul McCartney to play anniversary show at Tulsa’s BOK Center

From Thursday’s The Oklahoman.
TULSA – The BOK Center will celebrate its first anniversary with a little help from a Beatle.
Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Paul McCartney will play his first and only arena show of 2009 on Aug. 17 at the Tulsa arena, the venue announced Wednesday.
Tickets will go on sale at 10 a.m. July 20 at the arena’s Arby’s Box Office, Tickets.com outlets, online at www.bokcenter.com and by phone at (866) 726-5287. Prices have not yet been announced.
McCartney, who played bass and shared singing and songwriting duties for the Beatles, is touring North American stadiums this summer. The BOK Center show was one of the final dates added to the tour, according to www.PaulMcCartney.com.
The concert will feature favorite songs from throughout McCartney’s long and celebrated music career, according to a news release. It will draw hits from his tenure with the Fab Four, with Wings, the rock band he founded with his late wife Linda, and as a solo artist. The show also will include tracks from his 2008 album “Electric Arguments,” which he and producer Youth released under the moniker The Fireman.
McCartney last Oklahoma show was a 2002 concert at Oklahoma City’s Ford Center. He earned praise this spring for his 2 ½-hour headlining performance at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival in Indio, Calif.
The McCartney concert actually will precede the one-year anniversary of the BOK Center’s opening by a few weeks.
The Tulsa arena opened Sept. 6, 2008, with a sold-out show by another Rock and Roll Hall of Fame act, The Eagles. Since, the arena has brought in several big-name music stars, including Oklahoman Carrie Underwood, Rascal Flatts (which includes Joe Don Rooney of Picher), Bruce Springsteen, Fleetwood Mac, AC/DC, Metallica and Neil Diamond. Other events at the arena in the past year include the Radio City Rockettes, the World-Famous Lipizzaner Stallions and an Oklahoma City Thunder exhibition game.
