Kate Hudson as a brunette

The Oklahoman’s Entertainment Editor Gene Triplett chatted with movie star Kate Hudson on the Guthrie set of the recently wrapped movie “The Killer Inside Me.”

The film noir filmed in Guthrie, Cordell, Enid, Tulsa and Oklahoma City over 6 1/2 weeks, wrapping last week. Based on the 1952 pulp novel by Oklahoma-born author Jim Thompson, the film is directed by Michael Winterbottom (“A Mighty Heart”). The $13 million film stars Casey Affleck, Jessica Alba and Hudson, who went brunette for her role.

Affleck stars as a Texas sheriff trying to supress homicidal urges. Hudson plays his schoolteacher girlfriend; Alba co-stars as the prostitute who gets involved with the lawman.

“I have a great character,” Hudson told Gene, “and obviously the novel is famous. … I didn’t know about the novel until I got the script, and I kind of looked into it and read about how phenomenal the novel was for its time. I mean it’s out there. … Scary book. Scary. It’s brutal.”

Hudson and her son Ryder also talked with Gene about what they did and saw in Oklahoma during filming, her accent in the movie and the intense shooting schedule.

Oh my goodness…you mean she tore herself away from A-rod long enough to do this film.
Maybe she should spend more time in acting class.
